Original Jack Questions

I'd like to equip my 70 GMC with the original Jack setup. Does anyone have images of what this looks like, how its supposed to be stored and what are all of the components of the jack and related items? Are they the same for all 67-72? or anything unique for 70?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Re: Original Jack Questions

The jack is a start, but pending the cab year the mounting points differ.

Re: Original Jack Questions

This is what a 1970 jack set should consist of and how it was stored. Note that the 3/4 and 1 tons had a tire iron (#8).

Re: Original Jack Questions

Even the mount plate and spring for the jack are slightly different but i don't know if its the shorter or longer spring.

Re: Original Jack Questions

Wish I had read this thread a year ago. Everything is missing from my truck (was mom and dads) I probably threw everything away not realizing what it was when I cleared the house after Mom passing. They never threw anything away!

Re: Original Jack Questions

I have one of these. I can't remember if this came with the truck or I liked it and replaced the other wrench.

I don't think so. I have never seen a jack like that in any '67-'72 GM truck....

Re: Original Jack Questions

Resurrecting an OLD thread - my (second owner) ‘67 GMC has a jack just like jim-bob’s…I assume it’s original….

My dad’s ‘65 GMC had one like that also….

Any comments/insults/etc?

Re: Original Jack Questions

My '70 had nothing in the way of a jack when we inherited it. Custom Camper is supposed to carry a jack and a foot pump. I carried a floor jack when we got it. Now we have a motor home and we use AAA.

Re: Original Jack Questions

A very similar jack was in my 1969 GMC. It was made in the Canadian plant. Is this what they used in Canada?

Ok…here’s my ‘67 GMC jack stored in the passenger side cab rear corner:

The jack hardware must have changed during the model year…right?

My factory 71 2wd swb has that jack. Fremont truck. I thought perhaps it was a replacement, but it matches the instructions decal on the rear panel. The decals image looks like a gmc truck.

My truck was special ordered w leaf springs, basically a Chevy on a gmc chasis. Im 2nd owner, since 1989. I just can't visualize the old man replacing a jack and decal too.

Sometimes "what is" isn't or only part of the story. I like the jack better than common, its less bulky, and if I remember right, turns with anything handy. Happen to know if it had a special tool for turning it? Besides a lug wrench.

I suspect its more than that, perhaps rear suspension.

That and a dollar says your jack is for a c10. Perhaps k10 too. Too light duty for a 20?

Hmm, interesting seeing your set up. I can't swear my truck had a spring for a jacks parts, but I think it did and was installed w the rebuild. Positve it had at least the screw for it. Why would u need a bag at all with that jack? My truck didn't have a bag when I found it, stole one off another truck. Maybe it never did. Is that a factory bag underneath those parts? Be a great use of it if not needed for parts, perhaps even factory.

Just looked at these decals, answered some of my questions.https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=841629

The only other item under the bench with the jack, back when I bought the truck, was an 8-track player.

Whatever hardware might have come with the jack probably fell out through the hole in the rusted-out passenger side cab corner 15 years ago!

I don't know why the 8-track player was in the truck, because the truck has no speakers. The 8-track player works, though. I rigged up a ridiculous frankenconverter (stereo line-out to RCA to aux to bluetooth), hooked the player up to my bench top 12V DC power supply and now I can play 8-track cassettes casting to the garage bluetooth speaker.

Ive come 2 the conclusion the only tool that comes with the jack like bobs above is a short lug wrench, as Bob shows
