Re: Vintage picture thread
Hi Everyone,
Here I am in early 1974 striking a typical pose w/my 1967 ex-US Forestry Service Suburban 307 4speed 4WD: Boy, I wish I could still work like that on my knees w/o using any padding!! ![]() In December of 1973 my wife and I used this truck to deliver a motorcycle to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for their museum. We were treated like royalty including a chauffeured trip around the 2.5 mile oval. I don't know if it still is, but at the start/finish line they had a strip of original paving bricks about 2 feet wide all the way across the straightaway. Our 'chauffeur' made sure to point this feature out as we crossed the finish line. He mentioned that this was preserved to show how the track got its nickname, "The Brickyard". Hmmmmm ........ I just realized that I can legitimately brag that I 'drove' the entire track at Indy ....... better not ..... I can feel my head swelling already ....... ![]() We were also presented with a set of 6 gold rimmed advertising glasses that list each first place winner from 1911 to 1973: One of these days we'll have to actually use the damn things!
