67 SWB First Build

Welp, the compressor finally called it quits. I think it's fixable but I needed a good excuse to get a bigger and better one. So I'll give it to my brother to fix and have. Compressor won't be here for a couple weeks (I hope), so not much progress going to happen I imagine until that's setup.

So for now, here's a picture of my dog getting a good feel for the bench seat that needs reupholstered.

Like I previously wrote, old compressor went down so it was time for a new one. Got it unloaded today with the help of my dad and brother. Still need to get it plumbed up and wired in, but I'm really stoked about it.

Belaire 5HP 60gal two stage. 15.3CFM at 90psi. Looking forward to a quicker tank fill and longer duration with good pressure 🤘🏼



Hope to have some good progress photos soon.

Slow progress. Between being busy at work and home life I haven't had much time for the pickup. My mar-k roll pan showed up about a month ago. I installed it the other night. Also cut out the corner of the rear floor brace for my fuel filler hose. I think it'll work out decent.

One goof I had was blocking my access to the tailgate. I didn't realize it until after the roll pan was welded in. Looks like I'll have to put my thinking cap on To figure out how to remove the tailgate.

That pan looks good! And doh! No tailgate access lol. I assume you mean that bottom bolt on the hinge? Yeah, let us know what you end up doing there.

Question on the gas filler stuff. Where did you get your hose?

The roll pan is pretty solid quality. Mar-K seems to have a pretty solid reputation. I purchased the hose from fillerneckSupply.com. I think the shipping was more than the hose itself.

Quick update-

I think I resolved my tailgate issue. I had to notch the pan to remove the trunnion bolts. I purchased a set of trunnions from a squarebody parts truck on facebook market place tonight. Quick notch of the tailgate and a dry run produced some good results. Just a little clean up needed and will need to patch the pan back up.

Roll pan is completely burned in and the tailgate seems to be working great. Another item to check off the to-do list.

Nice, looks good. This makes me re-think my original thoughts on front roll pan WITH bumper. I think it really helps fill in the gaps. What are your plans for the front?

You read my mind sometimes TA. I can't say that I've ever seen that mod, but It's run thorough my mind a time or two... I think having both roll pan and bumper could look incredible.

I watch a lot of shows. Iron Resurrection and Texas Metal are my favorites as far as the personalities but I also really like the quality that KindigIt puts out. And all 3 of these shows have badazz C10's they built. Seen em all like 2-3 times so I catch a lot of details on them, especially details they don't even mention. pause, play, rewind, pause, play LoL. Anyways, some of these guys have done this mod, roll pans front and back along with bumpers. It looks REAL clean.

KindigIt and Martins Bros both did camaro bumpers along with the roll pans(if my memory serves correct). Foose did this too pretty sure, on his white c10, youtube. He did another mod I am going to be taking advantage of on my turn signals too

We need a new sticky on this site that only hosts "cool mods" with pics that we can just scroll through skipping all the extra stuff in between normal posts lol.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm pretty happy with the fit. Didn't take much tweaking or busy filler. The tailgate comes off and on pretty easy now too.

I purchased a front roll pan awhile back but I wasn't happy with how the fit was going to be. My dad talked me into going with the front bumper, but it'll be painted to match the truck.

If you do go front roll pan, it sounds like the two piece front pan would be a nice piece.

Also I totally agree that it would be slick to have a page full of mods. That's probably one of the more enjoyable things I've done on my project. It's cool to look back and see all that extra time behind the helmet pay off

I just read through your build and I like the progress you are making. Solid work on mating the bed floor sections and doing the braces before the floor was a good idea.

Hey thanks for the compliment. I've enjoyed following your thread, too. Your thread gave me the idea to do the bed floor in two pieces. Was a wee bit more work but I think it turned out alright.

Small update-

Installed the latches on the tailgate and it ended up shutting and lining up half decent. Just needs a little tweaking.

Also I haven't been too crazy about the reproduction front bed panel. It doesn't seem to sit close enough to the top rail. I'm going to try and salvage the original panel. It ended up not being as rusty as it looked originally. Just needs a small patch on the bottom flange. Went to town with a dolly and hammer too to take out the dings from it's previous years of abuse.

I'll swap them out and if there isn't much change, I'll just plan on selling it.

Dam that front panel is ugly lol. But that just means it's gonna look better than new by the time your done with it

I'm in the same situation with my front bed panel.... a bunch of heavy dings and dents, and I'm not going to replace it with aftermarket either. The factory steel feels like it has a lot more integrity than a re-pop. It'll be a fairly new challenge in shrinking metal for me, but its not that complicated. I had pretty good results using a torch to get it cherry red then smack the high spot with a hammer before you quench it with a wet rag.

quick update-
finished cleaning up the front bed panel the other day with a hammer/dolley. Then i cut out the rust in the flange and a few spots that rusted through on the top rail. I ran a punch across the top to make sure there weren’t any additional soft spots i’d have to worry about in the future. Next, I cleaned out the top rail the best I could with a scraper and compressed air. I poured some POR15 in the top rail. It seemed to get pretty good coverage. After some primer and some body filler I swapped it on the bed. It definitely fits much better than the reproduction panel just a little filler left to sand.

I’ll shoot to finish installing the remainder of the bed bolts and get the tubs installed. I’ll also get the rear fender welded to the floor and rear cross sill. i’ll throw some body work on the hood in the mix too

Aint that the truth! It has definitely helped i think using all OEM panels. Only had to use a reproduction floor and tailgate
