Ok, I'm going to have work on a name for the old truck, names just don't jump into my head for naming a truck, or my 67 mustang for that matter. I promise to work on that

Ok, yesterday I worked on my drivers side window install following Blackdiesels video~ testy but doable, and a big thanks to Clarance J for the part so necessary to get going on this part of the build! I guess after the completion of this drivers door, I'd like a guide channel for the channel nearest the door latch to be like the Wing channel guide. The wing channel guide is a narrower channel and the window felt of which the Brothers kit supplies, which makes a continous loop fits this channel perfectly, whereas the original channel that's un-spot welded, is very wide. I may look for a used wing to rob the channel from it for the passenger side. I hope that made some sense!lol
Here I'm using tie wraps to hold the guide felt/liner in place. If I'd roll down the window, it'd pull the liner down. Since this pic, I have used adhesive(actually black seam sealer from Braults auto paint~ recommended by the saleman there~ gave me a tube for a caulk gun) to hold the felt in place and allowed to cure overnight, should be re-installing the glass hopefully for the last time, then work on fine tuning.

So you used felt from Brothers, not the stuff listed in Blackdiesels thread?

Laquer thinner should soften and take paint off of chrome without damaging it. Some times you have to use something like an Exacto knife or razor blade. Do not use steel wool. There might be a residue but chrome polish will take care of that. I have been doing that a lot on my build the PO were not the best maskers when they repainted the first time.

Now Howard, I want everyone to know, I did not do that! lol I bought the truck painted already, and the "reputable" paint shop should be shot for many of the things they did to this truck! But, I could possibly do something to it; kind of been the least of my concerns. It'd be funny to see someone try to steal gas with a siphon hose since my tank is in the back of the truck! The truck actually came with a new gas tank behind the seat, but I knew I was going to go with a gas tank where the spare tire went.

I'm just taking a break from the remainder of the glass install~ omg, then I got to adjusting the door as seems the weight of the glass may have put a little extra weight on the door~ it's as good as it's going to get!

I'm finished with the drivers door glass (not finished with the door)~ the passenger will have to wait until next week, but I have it down pretty good now and know what to expect! I expect the unexpected!

i used the brothers kit for everything. one thing i noticed is that there was a 1/4'' gap from the channel to the screw on window trim. i had some 1/4''x1/2'' black foam strip that i stuck in there to fill the gap. it's not a good pic but you can see where the gap is filled with the black foam weather strip. the strip filled the gap and compressed a bit to hold it firmly in place.

Hello Denee. Glad to see that you were able to work with the parts you received. I was wondering if you would post a picture of what the window kits contain besides the glass. At the moment you're the only builder I know who is in the middle of an install. Most of the other builds are already done. Alot of how to's and great advice, but what is in the kit? By the way your truck is looking great. After the windows, Whats next?

My door had a tight gap at the top before I pulled the Glass & hardware out now it won't close.
When I get done installing the power window and wiring that gap will most likely be slightly larger and the door will close just fine.

Hi Earl, this is the brothers kit. I bought iit when it was on sale for half price. I don't remember how much it was. Brothers has sales pretty often, so you may want to keep an eye out at their store. I'll put an update soon, this project wasn't bad at all; )

Now that I'm back in town, I can add a little more information of what I've ran in to on this glass install. First, I think the brothers glass may be different measurement~ I don't have another to go by. The reason I write this is that the measurement of what Blackdiesel wrote, I had to lengthen their hole measurement by at least another inch to get a good fit. I know what to do on the passenger side now. I'll elaborate on this from doing the passenger side glass soon.



This is a great time to put the new door handles on! once the glass is in, it is difficult to got to the screws which affix the handle.


ON my passeger side door, the guide which is nearest the door latch, is not useable.


Fortunatley I was able to use the left over part from the front wing guide and left over from the passenger side to make a guide! I like it better cause it fits the felt guide much better than the very wide guide. IF this makes no sense, ask me! I just have the new(used) channel sitting in the old channel to get my length.


Some time this week I'll get back on it and finish up and take a bunch of pics along the way. Again, I don't think this to be a super difficult task~ If I can do it, you can too!

I suppose if one is patient and sources out parts, you could probably beat Brothers price by having the glass made, then find the felts/guides, then the sweepers, etc, But I look for convienence. btw, my glass is tinted and not nearly as tinted looking as in this sales ad.

Hi Denee007. First, thanks for the pictures of the parts and your install. I was going to put my windwings in but still had to replace all the rubber and seals etc, but after seeing the videos, the kit, and your install I will start my plans for the new side glass. I knew there was a reason I kept those old rusted out doors. The bottoms are gone but all the tracks and division bars are in good shape. There is a glass shop not to far from my house and I'll start by checking glass prices. I'll make a pattern and take it to them. They did the install of my windshield and did a nice job so I''l go back to them. With the old parts I have all I should need is the glass and sweepers. I like your build and will be watching until its finished. And the fun continues.

Good morning! gee, it's 45 degrees here! That's subzero to me!lol However, I'm on a mission to finish my passenger side glass this morning, and to get more pics for here and my blog.
The pic below~ obviously where the cutout will be for the rear channel. This one is narrower due to me using vent window channel instead of the original as show above due to rusted out. One question that I was asking was, how deep to make the cutout? well, what I did was put the door latch back up, then butted the channel against it but only very lightly, but not too hard. I used the "tabs" pointed out by the screwdriver to "adjust" the tabs, then tacked the channel in place, then double checked it. Though I don't have a pic right this second, the channel does need to be in line with the window frame on the inside, but that's common sense, but I did have to unweld my drivers door~ my eyes play tricks on me these days. But it worked out ok.

Howard, are you speaking of the original gas tank? or when you say,"in back of the cab?" If you're talking about the original which goes behind the seat, then I've never done that, but I would have to say, make sure the area has good integrity(no rust), you sender switch wire I believe comes up through the floor through a grommet, also your fuel line comes up in the same area. I would guess if your gas neck isn't secured down somehow, you'd have that out, the put it into place once the gas tank it set down in its new home(the floor), then the gas neck and vent hose can be put on~ maybe a little spray silicone to help it slide on. I would guess there are some straps that hold it into place? Mine didn't have straps, it was just sitting on the floor un-retained. But we don't want our gas tanks flopping around!

Is this what you were asking about? If it's about installing a tank in "back of the cab", where the spare tire goes, that's what I did.
