Re: My 1952 truck.

Well on Friday I trashed my back again lifting the front of my truck frame. Yesterday I was in traction and had just about everything cracked at Dr. Bones. Today all I was able to do was get my frame levelled on jack stands and move the welder over. Can't wait to get cleaning up this frame and weld something thicker than a dime.

Re: My 1952 truck.

My back is still messed up but I got tired of limping around and went into the e shop today. Got a good start on boxing my frame until my grinder died. I bought a new one for tomorrow.

Re: My 1952 truck.

Napa has a steering box for an 85 Camaro for only $120. That is Canadian Pesos also. For you Americans , they would almost pay you to buy it. Haha. It is the 12:1 box so 2.5 turns lock to lock.

Re: My 1952 truck.

Thanks buddy. I'm waiting on a turbo kit for my sled and then it's going on. Snow is less than two months away. I had a dewalt grinder. She did a lot of grinding and with the 40 grit flappers, she said screw this guy. I bought a new Makita today. Still nice and light. I had to lay down to weld today haha. I am going and getting cracked again. Not quite right back there.

Re: My 1952 truck.

Good looking build.

I have to admit it but I buy the Harbor Freight grinder. Mine was still going strong pretty much all the way through my build until the mechanism that locks it to loosen and tighten the nut stripped out.

They're so cheap I have two, one I keep a cut off wheel on and one a flap disk on. It saves a little time but more than anything it saves your patience not having to swap over constantly when you're cutting and de-burring/shaping.

Re: My 1952 truck.

New suspension makes a huge difference. Too bad you couldn't hold off for a couple months as the winter sales are usually pretty good. I highly rec poly bushings in the a-arms. I used the speedway tubular arms on my last build. It was bagged but rode like a dream.

Re: My 1952 truck.

Oh I can wait. So you had Speedway upper and lowers? I was looking at Global West units. They are nice and have a swivel lower spring seat. However, they are spendy.

Re: My 1952 truck.

Wade

Have you considered trying an Inversion bed/table to stretch (traction) your back?

I use one about 20 minutes a day and it helps me.

Who ever said these are the "Golden Years" has another thing coming, if you know where I'm coming from.

Enjoying your build.

Keep on keepin on

Re: My 1952 truck.

I have an inversion table and have been on it. I need to go back for another adjustment but I'm going to wait until Saturday. I'm getting stuff done on my truck finally and my wife is gone until Sunday.

Re: My 1952 truck.

I used stock lowers and poly bushed them, then just the tubular uppers see pic.
I got some stainless hp brake hose off ebay for half price. Big bore s10 calipers, powerstop rotors from summit on sale, monroe shocks I fabbed up. The speedway number is 91031133 that has the aluminum shaft, I used the steel shaft. I believe I got two 8" ones. I doubt you'd need the 8.5" ones. These are the needle bearing type that need greased every few thousand miles. But they are cheap and work great.
