I still have the 6.2. I am going to sell it as soon as I am certain the Dmax will standalone. The LS is going into you guessed it... another Chevelle! It's a 67. I'm alittle worried about the trans tunnel because the T56 trans is pretty big to fit into the early A bodies. I will have to cut it and raise it up a few inches I believe.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone

I realize nothing has been posted since March on your truck but I just spent the morning bingeing on your thread. Really kool truck and awesome way to build it. I really learned some new stuff and found it to be informative. I also added to the Low Buck Build Threads as well. It might not be super low budget but still I totally dug it! Thanks.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone

Thanks Rusty! It could have been a lower budget but bad luck with the engine, injection pump, and turbo all contributed to raising the cost. It was still an affordable project. The quality and price of your donor vehicle is your building block foundation. I could have waited and paid more for another donor truck but Dodge W250s at a cheap price are hard to come by.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone

Doing with what you have when you have it is honestly the heart and soul of a build. Making the best of it and being able to see it through. There will be mountains to climb and valleys to wade through, but how you work through those is more important. You were down when the pump was bad but you got back up. That's the difference. Thanks for sharing your build!

P.S. I have a new respect for diesels now. I was never terribly fond of them but I can see the love affair with them. Thanks.

Thank you! I got an update for you! We took the truck to the Redneck Rumble which is a large pre-1968 car show that is heavily rat rod or "recession" rodding as I like to call it influenced. The truck did great on the way up and back. I will try to post a lot of pictures as soon as I get time. Maybe tonight.

I can say this. The trip was about 270 miles round trip. We drove a two lane on the way up going about 55 mph. On the way home we took the highway going about 65-70, sometimes faster . We averaged right around 22 mpg! 270 miles on 12 gallons! I also weighed the truck this weekend on the CAT scales on the local truck stop. Total was 5520 lbs. I think the steering axle was 3420 lbs and drive axle was 2100 lbs. Add on 300 lbs for our two coolers, my tool box, our clothes for the weekend, and my wife and that brings us around 5800 lbs gross weight. So a 5800 lb 4WD 1 ton truck on 37 inch tires getting 22 mpg is insane! This is about the same mileage I have gotten before which was right at 21 mpg.

:p One day our two trucks are going to get there pictures taken side by side!

The other cool projects are currently on hold due to some bad health issues right now in my family. Say a prayer for my family if you have a chance. I'm putting my faith in the Almighty, Jesus Christ.

I will post some pictures tonight hopefully. Good to hear from you guys!

" Not many people enjoy the diesel swaps." Luther, don't assume that even though most of us on the forum don't have a diesel. I can think of at least three diesel swaps going on on the forum and I am impressed with them all.

Nice pics! I'm guessing the turbo on the inline 6 is just for noise and illusion.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone

Luther, I was thinking about yours, the blue TF from Canada (I think) and the GMC with a Mercedes diesel. I used the search function to try to find them and found this link instead so rather than PM'ing them I'll post it here as others might be interested.

We only took one video this weekend and was from inside the cab pulling a hill on the interstate at about 70-80. I will try to get it on here. I was trying to record the turbo whistle but you can't really hear it.

For sure! I was thinking why waste good air by putting it into the exhaust after you compressed it?

Ryan what should I set my timing at. I skipped a tooth on my injection pump when I installed it but I retarded my pump position. I have heard of people skipping a tooth and pulling it to the head but I don't know if that would be too much. I wish I could put a timing light on it or something. I need to buy the VE timing tool. I still wouldn't know the correlation to timing.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone

Luther, rotating the IP half way with the gear skipped one tooth should be good. I have the gear skipped 2 teeth on my 95 F350 with a Non IC VE, and I had to back the IP all the way back to keep it from sounding like a 24v.

Is there a certain static timing degree range that is preferred? I think stock is 12 degrees.

15*-18* for a DD. More like 15*-16.5*, but higher if you want. I need to put a timing light on my 12v ve and the 24v ve to see where each one is actually at.
