I have 1971 plates on my 71 burb. In MN the rules are pretty good. I can make it a lifetime plate by limiting my driving to 2500 miles per year and only on weekends type of thing. OR I can continue to pay the minimum "tabs" cost each year and drive it as a daily driver. They don't actually give you tabs for the plates, I get a proof of payment card to carry in the vehicle just in case the cops pull me over.
The vintage plates do need to be in a different numbering sequence than they are currently using. In MN it is (123 ABC = 3 numbers 3 alphas) or (abc 123 = 3 alphas 3 numbers). My 71 plate is mixed alpha + numbers.

I have one Texas '69 Truck Plate...the only thing I plan do do with it is to mount it to my "Allen Cook Chevrolet of Winnsboro, Texas" Bumper that's on my Truck and maybe mount it in the basement somewhere for display....someday.

Hey JoesJunk! is that really true in Missouri ? It is such a pain in the a$$ to do anything in Missouri regarding motor vehicles that I am shocked they would even offer it. I will need to find some 67 Truck plates now

You guys are right about Texas, except to clarify that there are two different methods to run original tags. If you register the truck as a classic you will have to pay registration every year. If you register as an antique you either get an antique tag or run original tag with a small tag to display with your rear tag. Antique is the way to go, as you will never have to get your truck inspected.

I have a set for my 67 that I bought from "James Blanton". They have never been used and I got them for $24 at the ballpark swap meet a couple of years ago. They will go on the next time I have to register it. I think you can register them every year as a normal plate for $15 extra. I dont think there is a mileage cap unless you register as an antique or classic vehicle. I have a copy of the form somewhere in the garage. You can print the form from the state website.

In Va you can register the year of vehicle plates 2 different ways. The way I have mine I can drive to and from all auto related events up to 250 miles from home. But no more yearly inspections. Or you register them as daily driver plates, but you still have to get the vehicle inspected every year...

Hey 72 Custom Camper, I've got mine registered as an antique also. I only drive it about once every other week. I was lucky, my Uncle found the plates when he had the truck and gave them to me with it. I probably wouldn't have realized they were truck plates unless he pointed it out to me. Special K, as far as I can tell, truck plates in VA start with a T, that's how you tell them apart.

Well I found a pair on e-bay that I am bidding on. I need to get my truck registered in Texas within the month, so I need to get some pretty quick. I hope we don't see an immediate spike in the interest of the plates due to this thread. I would hate to be bidding against someone here.

I did a general search for texas license plates, then narrowed it down to 1969 Texas License Plates. I did not see any 71 truck plates. I am bidding on a 1969 set because my truck is actually a 69 and i understand that the plates must match the actual year (i asssume based upon the VIN). BTW, i'm bidding under "dgcorn".

Looks like I just poured 5 gallons of gas on a dimly lit match by posting this thread. I've seen three sets of Texas plates, one is a NOS set of '68, and one set of '69 and another NOS set for '72. Here's a link to the search results:

Every car swap meet I've ever been to has several vendors who sell old license plates.
If I'm in a hurry and can't wait till the next swap meet, I usually just buy from ebay and pay the price.
