The only drawback I see to the "new" LS7's is they are butt ugly motors. All that technology, sensors, ect., has forced Chevy to cover nearly the entire top of the motor with a plastic cover. Definately a case where function trumps form.

Still, one SURE would look good inbetween FarmTruk's framerails

That is the correct part number, and is just about at dead dealer cost so they must have bought a truckload to sell it for that! It is a steal if you want a bucket full of power that idles nice and gets close to 30MPG on the highway...with foot out of it of course!

No offense to Kelsfine69's 454, or Skip Greaney's Z06...

I am referring to the new "small-block" LS7. With all of the plumbing, wires, sensors, do-hickies, and thing-a-ma-bobs required to get that kind of power out of a modern engine, they then were forced to "pretty it up" by putting the plastic covers on...

It's beauty is definately UNDER the skin...

Seems I seen some engine same as this with the covers for sale for Marine application at a fishing commuity in Alaska. This would be a decent power for a bow picker. may be a couple of them . Where are the seattle fisherman they should have an idea .

If I was going to do it with the new LS7 I would look for the complete car in a write-off. Buying the engine and then trying to hunt down all the extras would be very time consuming and costly, not to mention the hair pulling. I wanted to keep mine as clean as possible, but still functional. This is as old school as it gets, Carb, Intake, fire , exhaust = horsepower. I did have to hog the heads out before i dropped it in tho. Probably pushin 550-600hp on avegas.

The LS7 crate motor ($13K) mentioned earlier comes complete with intake, harness, PCM, injectors, etc.. Basically a drop in kit, but its still expensive. Believe me, you aren't going to find a wrecked Z06 Vette with a good LS7 for anywhere near $17K.


If you want to keep it old school, you can run a carb intake on the newer motors as shown below. It uses an ignition box instead of a distributer, but most everything else is similar.

This is a 454 LSX that I mentioned in my earlier post. I think its a pretty sweet looking engine myself.

Here's a site that you can get engine, motor mounts whatever it takes to install it in your ride. Don't know anything about them, just they got a lot of cool stuff.

I'd really like mine to turn out half that nice. That one will be my guide. I really like the way all the hoses, wiring and lines are neatly routed along the engine bay, leaving a clear clean look at the motor. I'll have fuel injectors on billet fuel rails and a throttle body instead of a carb hiding under the air filter.

I your seriously looking for a old LS7 they do pop up on ebay quite frequently. The only drawback is the 12.25-1 compression. A little high for today's gasoline. Might want to check the LS6 out???

Actually that would be the LS2 in the GTO, the LS6 is bolted in the Caddy CTS-V.

I love the LS2 in my GTO, lots of power everywhere, and get's 25MPG on the freeway with the 6 speed. 400hp with 25mpg is pretty decent.

That engine would be awesome in the truck I must say

You know, the 2004 Goats came with the LS6. They didn't sell that well once everyone found out that the 05s were getting the LS2.

Thats good news....

Since this thread was started, I've picked up an LS1 long block and found a deal on another supercharger that I couldn't pass up. Should make for an easy 600 hp at the crank on pump gas. I was planning on building a large cubic inch motor, but that will just give me something to look forward to in years to come.

Why not just buy a escalade motor and spend about 2 grand on it and make more hp and torque for around $3200.00? My Dad had the escalade motor in his 69 camaro and my brother just put one and a t-56 in his 99 RCSB chevy and they are very very scary rides. My brothers truck will spin the tires all the way to 4th gear. Both motors have cams, valve springs, ls-6 intakes, corvette throttle bodies, etc and they have less than 2 grand in the motors which make a little over 400hp and still get 20 + mpg. You could spend another $1000 and have a 500 + hp motor. Ls1's are good but the 6.0's are better. Just my 2 cents.
