Re: The 49' is home !
Heard it run for the first time tonight. Bought a battery from Sillyoldman
and took a few tries but the old dog ran for close to 1 second. By then it was dark and I was happy to hear it fire. Hope to have it running w/o priming the carb this weekend. Have to figure out some temporary fuel tank till I replace or recondition the old one. Thanks for the replys so far, ideas always welcome ! A couple non related pics with the bed and carpet pulled out.

Re: The 49' is home !
Got some sheetmetal for the panel yesterday. Unfortunetly it just gets to sit and wait. Needs carb installed and maybe some brakes before it can come in the shop.(and I need to finish a certain black Volvo) Now I can repair the wrinkled roof and fill the side window with parts that are the proper shape.
Special thanks to Steve@oldsub.com and Sillyoldman for all the help in getting these parts !

Re: The 49' is home !
Brad I just went through this from the top. I didn't see you mentioning a plan for the front seats. Be aware that those original type seats are somewhat sought after.
I think I sold a real ratty set for $200 or maybe more and had quite a few queries when I started advertising them. If you're not going to use them turn them into parts you need!

for a bit more comfort, as I really don't know have only driven it 20-30 ft. I have this wacky idea of recovering them in leather. My wife pulled the cushion backs off our old leather sofa and replaced them with pillows. (whatever!) so I grabbed the leather from those which may (?) be enough for recovering the panel buckets? If not craigslist free leather sofa's all the time. Just have to avoid the purple and greens

Re: The 49' is home !
Not much to report. I did find yesterday the wind had blown the cover off the side window hole. Didn't look too wet.
I ordered the linkage kit from Langdons stovebolt for the Weber carb kit I bought from him. I spoke with Buffalo Enterprises today about a new kit he just developed. Seems that I'm not the only one interested in Ford bolt pattern front rotors on there disc conversion. I'll be sending for the front kit and adding that to the list of things I need to do not just think about. Thanks to the local 67-72 crowd asking me about the 49 at the monroe swap meet. It really got me excited about getting some of my many other projects out of the way so I can get going on the 49.

Re: The 49' is home !
I just noticed its a 235 instead of the GMC 228 I expected. I'm a little biased toward the GMC's myself, but you'll find performance parts easier and cheaper for the Chevy.

Re: The 49' is home !
Spent a little time on the carb install/linkage. Its a slow go but its outside and every time I open the hood the rain starts up. My luck.
Tried to find info on linkage but not much out there on the web. So I messed around till it worked. Have concerns about the stress on the pivot bolt. We'll see. Carb in the nicest thing under the hood now. I better cover it with an ugly air cleaner

Re: The 49' is home !
Good work! Maybe you need to learn to work with the hood down?

Re: The 49' is home !
^^^.....or you could move the ol' girl to a nice warm dry spot???
I agree you should put an old / "ugly" air cleaner on the new carb.

White wall opinions wanted
Today I brought home some whitewall tires that have plenty of life left.
Co-worker has a super sharp 74(ish) Mercury Marquis that had older tires on it. He was afraid to take it on the freeway due to the tires being over 6 years old. I don't think the 49 has much if any freeway miles in its near future. They'll do for around the yard and maybe downtown (5 minutes away) I'll have to round up some 6 lugs as the original wheels are 16 " The tires I got are 15's. I think I'll skip on my split rim 6 lug 15". Not sure I could find anyone to work on them if I wanted (I don't) O.K. enough yapping white walls in or out ?
