Re: Bought a 68 swb...
Plans are in the works for a turbo'd LS motor now. I WILL be getting rid of the 396. If anyone is interested let me know, and we will go from there. I go to work at 5 this afternoon, and won't be off till 5 tomorrow morning, so I will try to get the numbers off of the block and heads tomorrow afternoon when I wake up from my nap. If you have any questions about it, you can call me at 432-559-6362.
Thanks, Austin

Re: Bought a 68 swb...
Alright, casting numbers in the heads are as follows: F12-74, GM 11T. Casting number on the block is GM 10T. Will have to look for the other casting number on the block tomorrow afternoon.

Re: Bought a 68 swb...
3999289....454.......71-79...2 or 4 bolt, some "CE" replacement blocks had four bolt main caps
It will probably be a 1974 if the heads are original to that block. You should look at the heads again and get the 8 digit casting # to be sure. The exhaust manifolds are newer than that since they have the smog tube holes that are currently plugged. |

Re: Bought a 68 swb...
nice truck deffinently needs different bumper and stance but looks like a great start , on the engine I would really think about it if I was you to me theres nothing cooler than big blocks and you can build enough horsepower and torque with that 454 or 396 whatever it turns out to be to tear up a truckload of rearends and transmissions . I have a 454 in my chevelle and its a beast and its probaly only got about 450 hp. but hey we all know how it is when you get that new project and your running through all the different build scenarios in your mind . whatever you decide to do with it good luck and have fun

Re: Bought a 68 swb...
It's amazing what a little wet sand and buff will do to an old single stage paint job!!

Looks like you saved a bunch of money by not having to paint! Looks real good in the pics.

Wow, that thing looks great!!! Love the color combo. I have thought about doing that to mine. Can't wait to see what else gets done.
