Bought a 68 swb...

Well, haven't been on this site in a while. Was going to do a 70 GMC but decided against it. And since have redone a 2002 Silverado. But now I am back, and this time I will be staying for a long time!! Went and picked this truck up Saturday.

68 SWB w/396 BB

Plans are to take the 396 out, and replace with a LS motor with some form of forced induction, probably turbo. Drop it, put some 20's on it, and paint it HOK Tangelo Pearl. So far the only rust I can find is the very corners of the floor pan, and the outer rockers. Will find alot more out when I get it sandblasted. Also need to do a 5 lug/disc swap up front. Anyone know the cheapest place I can get the parts from?? By the way, the big block is for-sale. Runs great, sounds great, I'm just an LS kind of guy! Anyways, on to the pics...

Nice truck. You need to be a site support to offer the big block for sale. Good luck with your build.

Where do I become a site supporter? Will probably be selling a bunch of little parts off of this thing.

Re: Bought a 68 swb...

Thanks for the comments guys! I think I got a pretty good buy on this one. Everything works on it as well, the lights, turn signals, brake lights, windshield wipers, gas gauge, oil pressure gauge, etc....everything! VERY happy with this one. Going to be a very fun project for me.

Re: Bought a 68 swb...

Beautiful truck, and it looks like a great project. IMO I'm diggin' the color and overall look of the truck, but a drop and wheels will be a must.

Check out my build thread (Blank Slate) for the 4.5/6" drop we installed as well as the saga related to my wheels.

For me... change the rear bumper, drop it, new shoes, and drive it.

Can't wait to see what you turn out!

Re: Bought a 68 swb...

If it is a factory BB truck, see if it has a Dana 60 rear in it... I'm trying to find out if they came in SWB trucks. Love the powder blue!

P.S. - The tail light trim will need to be replaced with the correct style for '68... then it will look a lot better! And that bumper has got to go in the dumpster.

Thanks, yeh, I'm thinking of just getting the wheels and drop on it, get the motor in, and just cruise it this color for a little bit. Your truck looks good man!

It has a 12 bolt in it. But it might have came with a Dana60 and when the previous owner was doing the 5 lug swap in the rear, just replaced it with the 12 bolt.
The trim is coming off the lights, and will never find their way back on!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Re: Bought a 68 swb...

Dana 60's came in 3/4 ton trucks. 12 bolts came in 1/2 ton trucks.

Re: Bought a 68 swb...

NNNNNT! Wrong dudes! There were 6 lug D60's installed in these trucks from the factory. Yes, 99% of them did have the standard 12 bolt, but some had the 60.

I'm ugly, not dumb!

I'm was just guessing on the 99% part, but texanidiot had one in his truck, and a dude that has a mounted deer head for his avatar just did a post not too long ago about refurbishing one he got from a junkyard. They are out there, just not common. Someone please back me up on this!

P.S. - leddzepp, I'm not here to judge attractiveness, and if you like old trucks, I don't think you're dumb either!
