Re: Let's see pics of paintjobs done yourself...

I have been giving painting a shot over the last few days. I have the inside of the cab done, and the door jambs done. It got alittle orange peel in the cab, but it's a learning experence.

Custom color that came off a piece of fabric from wal-mart. Changes colors because of the pearl in the paint.

I have done a bunch of paint jobs in my garage and shop. The last one I used a home made booth designed and built by my engineer friend from work. Check it out HERE

Re: Let's see pics of paintjobs done yourself...

Oh yeah! this is a rustolium roller job, mostly white satin with a mix of satin black to get kind of a grey. its not done, the other side is green. i'm doing this as a experiment to see if i f- it up or not, or if i may like the final look. i think that a roller job can look as good as i want it but it might take too much time to get it nice. me thinks i'm a gunna finish using a cheepo spary gun. oh i might switch paints as this rusto stinks for days still.

Thats good to know. Ive heard some say that a larger capacity tank is necessary.

It helps, so you don't have to wait for the tank to refill and risk getting dry spots and such while you are waiting.

WOW brother....that is awesome. Did you leave the PVC so you can completely disassemble it or just disassemble part of it? How thick is the sheet plastic (?mil)?

Re: Let's see pics of paintjobs done yourself...

Not a big deal I guess; I do this for a living. 4X4 was mine, 68 for a customer, my Blazer and some other stuff. This stuff's all Sikkens base/clear but I use RM waterborne now. I find 400 grit dry is fine for all paints as long as you're spraying a sealer coat first, I like this as it gives a nice uniform surface to paint on. I hate polishing; so I don't.

That's Lamborghini Orange Nacre, it's a "tri-coat" (candy orange pearl); glows like a popsicle in the sun!

Re: Let's see pics of paintjobs done yourself...

My '67 is being done in black, so I'm only doing the preliminary prep work for that.

Here's my '66 which was my first go at a paint job. Lessons learned: putty shrinks, and don't pick your color from the paint chart!
