There is a tilt column in my 72 and it was there when I bought the truck and I know my truck was not built with a tilt wheel. To simplify for me a 67/72 tilt has the neutral safety switch half way down the column and the van tilt has it at the bottom of the column or vise versa?

Yes I have many I am restoring.. I will have to adjust shipping accordingly for Canada. Should not be much more and we can keep the customs value down. PM me sir.

Thanks,
Duane

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

I'm interested in a column shift column if you have a true truck column. I know the vans are quite similar, but the i would orefer a genuine truck column. Let me know what you have

A completely restored true truck column will run $425-$450 depending on parts and shipping.

I would be interested in one of these in the near future if you're going to be doing more of them.

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

A bump for your thread and a question. I checked my 72 this morning and the switch is right down near the firewall , so do I have an original? I ask because my 4 way flasher button is black and not like the two on the columns in this thread.

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

yes it would be an original. I have seen some NOS flashers on site that are black and original and some red. So I am not sure... Most people prefer red. But I am guessing your turn signal switch was replaced at some time. replaced with a black knob

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

Just an FYI, the red hazzard knob is only correct for a non tilt column, all tilts originally came with a screw on hazzard knob, most 70-71's had the chrome one like in your second column pic and the 72's had the black, kind of 'horn' shaped plastic knob.

Also, you can't put a van tilt in a truck with the neutral safety switch in the van position, it hits the bracket that the column and brake pedal bolts to.

The flasher information was very informative and well needed.

On the not being able to install the van columns with the neutral safety switch position I must disagree. I have removed van tilts from trucks, I have also taken dimensions and measurements to compensate, and I also have pictures to verify such as true. Also that is not 100% correct any way you look at it because you can always collapse the intermediate shaft to compensate as well.

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

68 non tilt column I just did for member henry3rd was not a total restore but dang near. He just wanted blasted and painted black. I still tested the switch...blasted lithium grease and got er' wet.. polished up all levers and even blasted the clamp/retainers and fasteners for the lower end bearing..

It looks like you are doing real nice work. I have been modifying van columns for trucks for years. I have made patterns to move the NSS down to the truck position. That insures there is no interference with dash components...they do hit. I then cut the column opening for the truck NSS and weld a tab on the inside tube. This allows the use of the truck NSS in place of the van...the truck harness then plugs right in and works correctly (the van NSS does not have the same terminals as the truck. Just thought you might be interested and feel free to use any of this info. It makes a true economy plug-n-play tilt.
