And the last few miscellaneous shots from today... 2nd one is of the Onan generator that's mounted under the rear with a pretty ingenius roller setup to protect it from being drug off...

Oh Man, that front bumper is one beefy unit. It was done that way to house additional cooling stuff, and the "step-out" is built out of 3/16" steel and then there's a reciever hitch below that for launching boats and such. |

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion
After a little research on the Holley Projection, it seems that it's probably not the best option for a 468, it's only rated to 275hp. I know this motor isn't a bip HP unit. But I'm thinking that just with the mild rebuild (total cubic inches), Edelbrock Performer RPM intake & camshaft, it has to be close, right? I'm going to slap a functioning carburator on it and see what's what...I'll have to turn the fuel pressure down from the 15psi to 5-6psi for the carb, anything else?

nlped,
so glad to see that it is going well and you are pleased with the purchase. It'll be nice to see you out on the open road in it. We are headed to Atlanta to pick up our next project late this week and so we'll be sharing those photos sometime in the next 2-3 weeks. Brian "the seller" of Chubby

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion
Bad news. After doing some disassembly of the camper area and sweating my a$$ off trying to get things lined out, I'm afraid Chubby is going to be way to much $$$ to get where I'd need it to be. I may just wait and see if I can get a better plan, but I may sell or part it

Wiring has been butchered, plumbing is destroyed, cabinetry is unusable and I can't get the damn thing started. I'm FrUsTRaTeD!!! It to damn hot out and it's to big and heavy to get into the shop. There's a LOT of major problems...

Yep sounds like you've had a trying day, lol. Also sounds like it needs EVERYTHING to be functioning as it was intended. Bummer dude.

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion
Ditch the camper and make a ramp truck out of it.

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion
That IS a good idea. Another option: what about stripping the interior and just doing a lounge type setup? Real simple like a couple couches and a flatscreen. You know more of a transformation than a restoration, keep it simple just a spot to chill.
I'm half asleep still just thinking out loud.

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion
I'm seriously contemplating the hauler idea, but the major issue is that the cab has a walkthrough cut out of it, which wouldn't work well without the camper :/

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion
Keith,
Something like this? I actually have an extra cab, but it isn't as nice as the camper cab as far as floorboards, rockers and cab corners. I guess I could just graft in the section with the window and top skin... |

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion
The wheelbase is to short for the slant back, so I'm still trying to figure this out. I hope to have it running by tomorrow. I got the pro-Jection off, and borrowing a Holley to get this beSt fired. Hopefully

Re: '67 C30 Protecto plate camper conversion
Thanks Brian.
Well, I figured out that there is no fuel pump pushrod for a mechanical pump, so no.fuel pressure. The elecric fuel pump doesn't seem to work, so I ordered the pushrod. Looms like it'll be Wednesday before we get running. I did go ahead and change the engine oil and filter though. Getting closer. |
