Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

The truck is a 1971 C10 Custom Deluxe? If so from those above choices, I'd vote #1 two tone; blue letter tailgate with upper and lower tailgate trim and no band per custom deluxe combo. Make sure the custom deluxe emblems are appropriately positioned on the fender for your build factory (Janesville or not) unlike the super emblems shown above (in #1 and #3) - a common overlook.

Second choice is #2 as per SS Tim's post above - this is a different way to go than most builds and nice IMO.

Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

How about the "other" orange... (516)
This would get my vote, except in standard two tone (i.e. white top, solid orange everywhere else). If not, then definitely Hugger with a white top. Bot blue and orange interiors look great - but I love the hugger with parchment houndstooth. Or, better yet orange with orange highlander plaid. You do have a Custom Deluxe, after all. How about a peek at your SPID?

Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

Thanks for that Information SS Tim. It's appreciated. So the tailgate for #1 would be white with blue letters huh? Didn't know that either.

I'm still reading posts. THANKS for them.

Sweet truck. I like that darker blue, but I think I like the lighter blue by a hair.

Is that the Okra? Okra is the original color for my truck.

Yes, it's a c10 Custom Deluxe. the original emblems are intact. Say, by chance can you provide an example of the tail gate? You and SS Tim mentioned the color scheme, blue letters and no band.

Say Tim, you mentioned #1 had the black stripe molding. I just read the black stripe is aftermarket, as they were wood grain. Your comment is appreciated.

Here is an example of a 71 Hugger Orange Custom Deluxe optioned with the Deluxe Two-Tone paint (code 458). Note the body color letters and tailgate moldings. Any tailgate band would be incorrect on a Custom Deluxe.

That's great Tim..THANKS!. What are your thoughts on the "black" molding along the sides? Is that aftermarket?

No Ochre (511) is a mustard yellow color or "Spanish Gold" to the sales and marketing people. Shown below is an Ochre Custom Deluxe with the Deluxe Two-Tone (code 463). .

The Orange (516) Jocko and I mentioned is a true orange. Shown below is an Orange Custom Deluxe with the Deluxe Two-Tone (code 483).

Its important for me to mention that the GM paint codes not only describe the color but the application scheme, that is why there are so many numbers. This chart shows the solid color codes of the various factory colors.

Lets try to clear this up.

All upper/belt moldings have black infill regardless of trim level.

Lower bodyside moldings were installed with both black or woodgrained infill.

On a Custom Deluxe (or Custom) the black infill is used.

On a Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super the woodgrained infill is used.

Custom Deluxe or Custom used upper and lower tailgate moldings while a Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super used an upper tailgate molding and a woodgrained tailgate band.

Black tailgate bands are an aftermarket offering and not correct on any trim level.

These molding usages were the same on a solid or two-toned 71 trucks.

Having had two "Hawaiian Blue" (510 Med Blue) Chevys, I can understand your sea of blue concerns if a blue trim is used. But it should be noted that the Dark Blue does give a lot more contrast to factory blue trim and to me looks better.

Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

Okay, here's my education, should I understand correctly. Incidentally, today I'm leaning toward orange, tomorrow could be blue again.....ha!

1. Whichever color I choose the interior metal should be the same color.

2. The tailgate on the custom deluxe will have the upper and lower trim. Not the Chevrolet wood grain bar (and I'm glad).

3. If painted solid orange, then letters on the tailgate should be white. Not sure of the color code for that white yet.

3. All upper/belt moldings have black infill regardless of trim level. Lower body side moldings were installed with both black or wood grained infill. The black is correct for the Custom. Again I'm glad. Not quite as fond of the wood grain.

4. The correct orange colors are 516 and 524. The one pictured in the OP is 524 Hugger/Red-Orange. Incidentally, I prefer the 524.

Thanks for all your help. This is great.
