Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
My Dad was a carpenter and was always a GM/Chevy guy and he had a '65 back in the early 70's when I was young. He worked with a guy who had a '71-72 and I always like the look of that truck with the eggcrate grill.
When I got a little older (16-17) I was driving a neat old '54 1/2 ton (olds rocket w/ Hydramatic) and I had a chance to buy a nice 70 GMC (ochre/1-2 ton) off a friend of mines Dad but couldn't afford it at the time....nice truck tho'. I would have liked that newer truck because it would have been far more road friendly than my old '54 at the time. Then life happened....lol....and later on in life (early 30's) I found a mint Texas '72 blue/white custom 10 and I bought it and although it was stolen 5 years later and never to be seen again, I hung in there. Then I found my now blue/white '72 Custom Deluxe 10 (highlander) in California which is the near exact truck to what I had stolen in condition, history, options, etc and went for it and again....never looked back. all good Coley

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
My dad was into cars long before I was born, so I grew up with lots of classic cars around the house. But then, adulthood set in. And as is required when you get married and start having kids, I sold my 66 'Cuda back to my dad and bought a Taurus.
So we move forward, and I'm in my early 40's. The first wife is a distant memory, and the itch for a project vehicle comes back. The current wife is agreeable, so I start figuring out what I want. I know I wanted a big truck, pre-'75 (so no smog in California). I had grown up around Ford Trucks, but when I started doing some research, I fell in love with the 67-72 GMCs. I also knew I wanted a 4x4, and a longbed fleetside. After a few months of looking and Craigslist searching, I found my '72. Rough body that would need a lot of work, but solid running gear. Perfect project to learn body work, welding and painting.

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
my grandpa bought an 82 new and chopped it 6 in put a 350 from my dads nova in it lowered and calls it his hot rod truck. I've always wanted a truck like his since i was little. once i could afford something i looked on craigslist for a few weeks, found one for 2 grand went and looked at it. it needed a lot of work didn't run and needed new transmission plus more body work than anything else. turned it down heavy hearted. next day found one for the same price and i drove it home the next week. first truck at 17 a 70 cst longbed. hope i never sell it.

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
I have always loved the style of these trucks. And, with the indy suspension you get both worlds: comfort and style.
I looked hard for a 1970, same year I was born. It's silly, but we're both the same age, and it's rewarding to work on her, and see improvements.

I love all old trucks. I was going to do a 56 ford when we got this truck from my wife's grandfather.

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
What drew me to the 67-72 chevy trucks was I bought a 1969c-10 lwb pickup brand new in 1969. Liked the style and look and still have same truck to this day. Has been updated to front disc brakes, moved gas tank under bed, with a filler door on side of bed with a door, and have put in a 1996 Chevrolet truck 60/40 seat.

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
I recall when my dad and I went to the dealership to buy a brand new 1973 3/4 ton Chevy. At the time, I was 12 and tried to convince him to buy a '72 instead because it looked so much better. It was his first "new" vehicle and he had to have the newest, so he bought the '73.
In 2006, when I finished restoring my '70 K-10, he told me he remembered the conversation at the dealer and that I'd been right...he should have bought the '72 instead. |

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
So my buddy comes by and says "Mikes Blazer has a red tag and he's not going to go get it" Now it has a rebuilt 350 unfired and a rebuilt th350 and it's in pieces but Moms doesn't want it in the garage anymore. So I go see Mike and he has already sold it to Scott. So Scott says "I will trade your 66 El Camino for it and $500". Done deal As I had a 66 Chevelle and a 67 Firebird 400. Nice rust free Elco though... Oh well. So that was 1988. Girl is still with me and faithful as ever. I could go on with this story as in where Mike got it from but another day---

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
I started out a square body fan, but when I sold my 87, I had a BUNCH of parts and was hunting another 73-78 square when I wondered into this site & came to the realization that all my square body suspension stuff would bolt right up to the 67-72's. My best friend in high school had a 69 big block truck and we raised tons of he77 street racing in that truck, so I found myself one...now I have 4

I was watching dazed and confused and saw that black Chevy. I started to notice the GMC after that and I'm a 4 headlight like kind of guy so had to get me one!

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
Dad had bought our 72' C-10 brand new from Detroit and some where along the line he had a 69' 4x4 with a 292 under the hood, 4 speed gear box and an old Army truck bed for hauling wood. Both trucks saw a lot of years on the side hills of PA getting beat up. We have had Chevys in the driveway since I was a kid. I guess I couldn't imagine having anything else.

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
I have been a car nut since I pushed my first car (A 1957 ford) home at the age of 14 in 1968. My original car "sickness" was with and still is: Studebakers and Mopars,
The beginning of my 67-72 GM trucks addiction was about 33 years ago around 1982, While looking at a 69 Camaro at an abandoned vehicle auction to buy to make some $$ (I was buying, building and parting 67-69 Camaros and Chevelles at the time) I spotted a lonely "county orange" 67 stepside, I thought to myself, hmmmm that would be a cool truck to put my extra L88 427 in. so after a buying the Camaro for $450 I tossed out a $40 bid on the truck, I was now the owner of another Camaro and a 67 stepside (powered by a 327, power Glide and 3:73 posi), The next day out came the running gear and in went the 427 and T400. Woo Hoo what a blast to drive! Then needing a few items for the stepside I attended another abandoned auction, low and behold there was a 68 CST with a 396, AC, buddy buckets, light hit in the nose, Thinking it would be good for the parts I needed for the 67 I bid $60 and was now the owner of it too! After carting it home and giving it a good look at, I thought wow, this truck was too nice to part! So back to another auction with a 67 and a 68 listed, ended up with both of those too.. Off came the parts needed for my original two, I then placed an ad in the local Buy-n-Sell (This was the venue of the day all before computers and craigslist) after the first week of parting out the two parts trucks looked like a turkey carcass after Thanksgiving, (they were picked clean!). So after 47 years of the "car sickness" and 33 years of 67-72 truck addictions, I am still going fairly strong (although I am showing signs of slowing down). I still have a Stable of 2 Mopars, (Dodge Rams) 5 Studebakers (One 440 powered) and 5 67-72 GM trucks. |

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
I'm 37 (38 in a couple of weeks) so I mostly grew up in squarebodies. The first truck my grandpa had (my recollection) was a '73-75 longbed 2wd, moved up to a '77 swb k10, and the rest of my family had multiple squarebodies. I always loved those trucks but never was a 2wd fan. I also had an uncle that was a race mechanic, had many corvettes and drag raced a '65 Chevelle. I grew up loving trucks and speed.
When it came time to getting my driver's license I wanted the best of both worlds. My dad at the time was working at a car lot that specialized in cool cars. They had a couple of '71-72 Cheyennes and fell in love with the body style. We tried finding me one (in a 16 year-old's price range) but was unsuccessful. I do remember finding a yellow '67 swb stepside with a 427 BB, "3/4" cam, and "n50" tires. I loved it but once the parents looked under the hood and fired it up it was all but a dream. Dazed and Confused didn't help matters one bit even though I was also in love with Chevelles. Fast forward to a couple of years ago Jen and I were at a local car show. I hardly ever drove my Mustang and she overheard me saying I was considering a C10. We got to talking and decided it was a good idea. So I started searching, got in a hurry, bought a truck with a rotted frame and ended up with my red '67 stepper. I always knew my grandpa had a '67-72 C10 and even found out it was a red '67. My cousin sent me a pic last year only to discover he had the exact same model as the one I own. I'm now completely hooked.

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
First truck I ever drove was 2 Ton 68 Chevy "the stock Truck" I would drive it around in the field in 1st&low while it got loaded with bales of hay, It had no power steering and no power brakes, I started driving it when I was about 7 years old , 10 hours a day, all summer long.
When I was in Jr. High My History teacher had a 68 Chevy, It was a retired forest service rig. FS green, short bed, step side, 2wd, l6, 3 plane Jane, stripped down. I loved that truck. I tried to trade him my Yamaha dirt bike for it on a weekly basis. He wasn't interested. In High School, a couple guys had swb 2wd stepside 68-72's and I sure thought they were neat. Then, I saw Kevin's truck Kevin Vandenburg had a 69' chevy 2wd, short bed Fleet side, with a 68 front clip. It was Bright red and had a 400cid small block and a Th400. it had fat tires all the way around and was slammed. It was sexy, fast, red and low. I was in love. I was hooked. 20 years later, I still want that truck. I heard it got stolen in Sacramento. I have been drawn to these trucks my whole life. I'm 37 years old and I have wanted a 2wd, short bed 68 Chevy for over 25 years. Now I have one :-) |

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
It was grandpas light olive 71 c10 LWB that started it for me when I was around 7 years old. He told me I could have it when I was old enough to drive but I had to learn how to fix it first. Started me off "restoring" hot wheels then B&S engines then on to VWs. I still have a small fleet of vehicles but due to my uncle being a douche he wont hand over the c10 which my grandpa regave to me as my wedding gift a few years back (he was 101 years old at the time).
Like Special K said these trucks were built to last and the 72 for me was the most modern classic made. I loved my 75 K5 and did not feel bad grinding it on rocks and trees but I dont think I could bring myself to do the same to my 72 K20. |

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
I was a teen in the mid-late 70's. Our neighbor had a really sharp red 69 or 70 3/4 ton 4X4 Chevy. They used it hard - for plowing and heavy hauling. I thought that was the sharpest truck around even when it eventually got beat to hell.
Later in college in the early 80's I was looking for a daily driver and found a 69 green C10. It was a pretty basic truck but had the same good looks as our neighbor's truck. I owned if for a couple of years and had a lot of fun in it. About 17 years ago we were looking for a second vehicle for the family and kind of a collector-hobby vehicle for myself. Of course my top pick was the 67-72 Chevy-GMC's. We looked at quite a few and then when my white 68 CST came along we jumped on it. I guess I've always loved the styling of our trucks and of late 60's and early 70's GM cars.

My older cousin had a 70 lwb with a 327 4 speed and the hood would shake from the cam, I was a kid and it was awesome lol. I bought it when I turned 16, some 24 years ago. Wish I still had it, I've had a 69 and another 70 since but now building a 67 swb big block the way I want it to keep "forever".

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
My dad used to take me and my brother out in the desert in southern California when we were little and let us drive while he shot doves out of the back of a 58 chevy truck.
I have had a few trucks over the years and now have a Chevelle I drive to car shows. Wanted to build an old truck to daily drive and keep miles off my 06 Duramax so I bought a 63 GMC short bed fleetside. I cannot even tell you why I "just had to save" my 68 1 ton dually, other that I felt someone needed to. Anyhow, the 63 GMC got pushed to the side and I am cranking on my 68. What drew me, I just dig em. Classics.

Re: What drew you to the 67-72 Chevy Trucks?
It's funny, I just posted this to my project thread.
I grew up riding in this truck, my dad's '69 4x4. Years later, I found my project truck and first car just a couple blocks from my house. I was able to save the grille from my dad's before it went to the junkyard. I've been a fan of these trucks my entire life. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=664085 |
