Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I gotta have power windows....too used to the new vehicles to not want to integrate some of the creature comforts into my older stuff.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I prefer manual windows.
Open it as far as I want. vs power instant down feature which always seems to function when I just want to crack the window open, but never seem to function when I need to use those parking lot sentries to grab a ticket. If the window felts are stuck due to ice, I don't try and open 'em if things don't move. Power windows just try to force the issue. Don't have wear items like plastic regulator belts with manual windows. Don't get moisture corrosion in motors with manual windows. Don't need to turn on the ignition to open or close a manual window. By the time you hear a problem with power windows its probably too late. Alex. |

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Well being that I just finished completely rebuilding my doors with vent gaskets, seals, felts etc, I do like the old school feeling of having to
Roll down a window. Only problem is when my knee hits the knob If I have at the right spot. Vent windows? Totally different story k have yet to really understand their purpose other than make trying to replace seals a complete pain in the butt. Lol

Plus..You can't sell one of those fancy new wire harnesses to the crank window owners..LoL.. When I finally install the motors and regulators I have in my shed I will be sure to order one.

Vent windows or wing windows as we call them out west are awesome to me. cracked open they draft air out of the cab. Anything past 90 degs open they deflect air into the cab. Personally I think the big three made a huge mistake deleting the wing window from cars and trucks.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Well I guess I just wasn't really satisfied with the way they were designed to seal. Parts of it look "messy" for lack of a better word. The riveting was a pain with the hinges etc replacing the seals. Who knows that I have new seals I'll have to give em a go on the open road.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I open my drivers wing every time I drive the truck. It is one of the things I do while the engine is warming up. Mine do not leak when latched closed.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I prefer cranks. Power is nice fr opening the other side w/o leaning over (while driving). The only time I miss power windows is with a Suburban. I guess a crew cab too, but never had nor want one. I don't run A/C much and you can only open and/or close the second dor windows when parked

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
My 87 came with electric, and I've no interest in hand crank. I have an interest in making my electrics, automatics.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
My '84 has power windows, but I'm not sure if it came out stock with them, as the doors appear to be off a crew cab or Suburban. Four window control levers and only 2 windows kind of gives it away. I actually wish it had the crank style windows. If it was a daily driver I might feel differently.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I've always liked power windows for the lazy side of me.
I LOVE my Vent Windows (Or Smokers vents as we call them in North Texas). |

There is no way to look cool, cranking away on manual windows. I'm from the days when that was for po' folk. lol

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Manual windows with stock power coming in second. I hate those kits that have you pull the crank a bit to activate the power window. Any vehicle that has the power window switch anywhere except on the door also is one of a thing I try to avoid.
One thing that I have come to use more and more during these summer months is the fender vent. That's one idea GM never should have done away with.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Anyone ever seen any better power window/power lock switches for these trucks? I've come to hate the OEM ones lol. The design of the switch is poor, if you ever open one up. They like to have contact problems and quit working.
So it would be real cool if there was a better switch out there. I mean I know there are switches available, but it would be nice if they didn't look too awful out of place in these old trucks. |

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Not intending to self-promote here.....but taking the voltage load off the switches and using them as relay ground triggers allow them to last much much longer.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Agreed , When I did my relay mod my windows work perfect . It only uses the door switches to control the relays and gets the load away from the door switch . Also increases the voltage to the motor for better operation with the relay .

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I also have harness options now that allow the use of the older style GM stainless switches to be used with the newer type (stock for 1978-up) wormgear motors-but to combine the older switches with newer motors requires running relays configured a certain way. These switches are sold be Lectric Limited for older Vettes...but with the right harness integration you can run stainless GM style ones...no more plastic rot!

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
No way would I ever have a non-AC vehicle for summer cruising in the hot/humid Iowa summers! I keep very nicely detailed interiors and the last thing I'm going to do is sweat like a serial killer in a confession booth all over it!
