Myself electric, must be getting old, no, just old. I have only replaced 2 motors in all my years owning ones with power windows.

I like the hand cranks. My truck is manual everything, and I like it. Everything is understandable, there's no magic.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I prefer crank style, the window will most likely come up in cold weather(-35 degC) power not so much sometimes...wife rolled it down & then had to drive home 7 miles cause it wouldn't go back up...cold ride! Plus just less stuff to go wrong & that's what I like about these trucks...

Cranks.
Old-school cool and Simple, just another way I can appreciate my late model pickup even more. Add these to that list Standard shift Pump the throttle before cranking (QJet) Huge comfy bench seat that doubles as a sofa Vent windows and cab vents for fresh air in Autumn No check engine light No chance of a tailgate cable breaking

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I prefer manual windows as a general rule, but there are times I wish my square had power windows. That reach across the cab is a bit long for me even being 6-4. Converting to power is something I am tossing around. Man I must be getting old

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Or you could have it kinda both,Some aftermarket companies make a power window kit but uses the on hand crank as the switch,You don't fully turn it just push or pull it back and forward maybe a inch or two.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
The power windows in days of yore were not as reliable as modern ones,, by a bunch. I have the cranks, and I prefer them to vintage power windows. A modern power window setup would be nice, because I can't reach across to open or close that passenger window from the driver's seat.

Even some newer trucks have a power sliding back window.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Normally I would say hand cranks, God I wish my 98 dodge had cranks, those window motors go out within a couple years. Now my 86 Sierra Classic has power windows, and they work just fine now. Most people don't think to tear into the door and clean and lubricate the motors and guide tracks, when the windows start getting slower, eventually burning the motor up. Mine were going really slow, and after a clean and lube, they work better than my 98 dodge when it was new.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Manual windows, manual locks, manual trans.
However, in a concession to moderninity, I do have power steering, power brakes, fuel injection and A/C. K

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I like power windows . As some has said , easier to roll down the passenger side . When I am cruising and I get in town or slow down I like to roll down the windows and feel the breeze .
I did rework my windows when I did the resto . Removed tracks and clean old grease , new rollers where needed and new AC delco motors and new window felt . The biggest thing to help my windows was the relay mod .This put the power to the motors . I think my windows are just as fast as my 06 silverado if not faster . |

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Crank for the winter, but power for summer cruising is nice.
my 87 burb had power locks and crank windows, perfect combo for winter,no probs my 88 had PW/PL had wires crack in the flex of the door jam, lots of probs. pulled the locks and switched to manuals. I like how the manual crank sticks out the same hole for the switch. your able to use the window while fixing it,is cool. no motors were ever installed in the 88 back doors,i left cranks in.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
My old power windows don't work as well as new vehicles. Most of my problems were/are in the wiring and connectors. Finding a motor that will hold up over time is not easy. I have one AC/Delco that is working OK, the other Delco replacement is running slow. Hand crank is preferable on these old trucks. When weather is hot in Tucsonistan it is really hot, so rolling down the passenger window just makes it more hot, so no need to reach over and roll down the passenger window - just turn on the A/C to max.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
The only reason I prefer power is the convenience of the passenger side. Kinda like cell phones, I never knew how handy it would be until I got one. Sometimes I just like to let the breeze blow through while I'm sitting in a parking lot, or roll down the window to yell at somebody across the street, or the dog farts in the cab.
I don't care about the driver's side, power or manual is fine by me. But I do like the ability to control the passenger side. And since I'm never going to have manual on the drivers side and power on the passenger side, I guess my vote goes to power windows.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
Manual windows are a good excuse to not visit with the person next to you at the traffic light....
Guy in right lane: "making exaggerated motions for me to put window down" Me: shaking my head "no" slowly while making a cranking motion with my right hand Guy: mouthing "oh...ok!" K

That's the price you pay for driving a nice vehicle, Keith. It draws attention, people want to talk with you. If you drove a piece of junk like me, you wouldn't have that problem.

Re: Do you guys like hand crank windows or electric better?
I am about to get the truck windows tinted again. I had the super deluxe expensive tint installed on the rear window but it shows the reflection of the white hood and makes looking through it via the rear view mirror difficult.
New vehicles have what I would call a medium tint on the driver and passenger window - at least better than stock. I got new ceramic style tint on the Cav and it is very effective. Any darkness can be used on the rear window in MI and AZ. http://tintlaws.com/michigan-window-tint-law.php Some new tint is actually clear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54qVcRN674I |
