Re: Dirty Bird 54
Hello all.. finally got the frame done. Really happy with the tci chassis. I have some more welding to do on the cab and trying to figure out which body harness to go with. Any suggestions? I like the Ron Francis and painless so far.

Ls and trans plopped in ok...American Eagle 2 core and entropy fan are in the works. Tomorrow the fuel line will be ran from frozen boost. And now I'm going to look for a 3rd job to keep this project from crashing dry of my life's savings..

Re: Dirty Bird 54
Drove to Lake havasu to pick through a chevy junk yard and found a couple 47-54 bench seats have one extra wink wink and some hub caps along with some junk I couldn't walk away from. Any know what year these are? Cut the baby moons I got from mob steel and inserted them into these...

Re: Dirty Bird 54
got the air-ride working today. ended up going with ron francis harness. the steering linkage is an extreme hassle with the hooker cast headers. the headers are really close to the starter, no room for the steering, and frame rails. i do not suggest getting these. also made some heavy duty battery cables.

Re: Dirty Bird 54
You know that you had a good day in the garage when it starts with coffee then swings into cold beer and finishes with 3 fingers on the rocks.. Finally after cuts, bruises, being squashed, broke, and depressed I drove it around the block. It's a little fast so i guess the girl wont be able it drive it.. thats a plus. Still have to get the exhaust done on Monday then off to the dmv.

Re: Dirty Bird 54
the hubcaps are chevy deluxe (car) caps, from the 50s same rough vintage as the truck so good fit!
and for future reference, the mobsteel guys are great, they modified my friends "ferd" caps to fit his wheels, we just sent them the caps and they sent them back with the wheels. I like your caps better than the little tiny smoothie caps that usually go on there.

Re: Dirty Bird 54
Took the truck over to performance muffler to put in a exhaust. he did a great job. There was no room under the chassis to do it how i wanted. owell. The glass sent to me was the wrong size. I laughed. After this build is all said and done the company's that I bought from are running at about 50% efficiency. Meaning half of everything I purchased was either the wrong part or damaged when it arrived. I am super happy with her so far.. thinking about taking it to viva las vegas on the 15th..

Looks great. The funny thing is you don't remember all of those setbacks on that first drive....it looks really good. keep at it, the finish line is in sight.

Re: Dirty Bird 54
hell-o all.. tried cutting the bumper to make it look a little more presentable. i have two sides i need to weld up. Also made a exhaust protector for some wires under the cab. The first cold air intake didnt work with the engine. It needed the maf sensor placed more upstream and straight and included the honeycomb inside. it really made it idle much more smoother and gave the exhaust some bass. now im shopping for insurance and AAA. All in all its been challenging and time consuming and dam fun.. there is still a ton to do but i went in with the idea to do bare minimum to get it on the road to enjoy then come back to some other things i would like to fix not have to.. next thing is to go wait 4 hours at the dmv.. yeaaaa

Re: Dirty Bird 54
So far so good. It's been like 115 degrees here everyday and the truck is not over heating. Had a hiccup with the new alternator not turning off and it kept burning up the accuair computer. took me a month and 2 returns till i found the problem. Dealing with the dealership was a disaster. So much for buying new so you have a warranty. It's a must to do the door latches soon, they keep flying open...

Re: Dirty Bird 54
Has anyone had problems with header wrap? My engine would warm up really quickly and my hooker header manifolds would be scalding hot. I ended up taking off the wrap and its a completely cooler engine bay. Lava hot manifolds make for a hotter engine in my experience. Also made a heat block for my intake..
