Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
I've narrowly avoided disaster three separate times in three different trucks after blowing two brake lines and losing a wheel cylinder. The E brake saved my butt on each one, and allowed me to carefully milk the truck home on my own twice.

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
I can remember my dad rushing us off to catch a missed school bus at the bottom of a hill on a gravel road at its last stop before heading to town. Picture this, 46 Dodge, no brakes, rocks flying from the back wheels every time the emergency brake was applied.

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
I lost a rear cylinder on the way home from work last year. Had no brakes for about 15 min of the drive. No E brake. It gets a dual master and the e brake reinstalled next week!

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
Cost could depend upon how many of the parts you have. All that stuff should be figured out and available first. There are also parts inside the drums attached to the rear shoes that could be missing.

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
So its what's underneath from the end of the lever back to the wheels. If you are lucky it is all there and it just needs maintenance.

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
If anybody needs ebrake parts for a shortbed, I have almost everything, (even the crossmember) and brand new inline tube cables, posted in the for sale section.
I installed the trick electric eStopp using custom length cables so all the original pieces were not needed.

My manual trans 69 E-brake needs adjustment, but works. My 63 is..... well, the handle is behind the seat. After reading all these scary posts I'm gonna have to get that thing working.

mine has a rod that goes to the brake around the back of the transmission, then the drive shaft hooks to it.

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
I've got the lever under the dashboard in my 66 fleet side. Luckily I've got power brakes that work like a charm, and hopefully won't have to use it as a Jesus lever!

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
A lot of parts I got from an older guy who totalled his truck because he had an automatic and no e-brake. When his brakes went out going down a hill, well, it didn't stop until he deliberately ran himself into a telephone pole. He was pretty banged up - not to mention his truck.

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
I am loving having a functional e brake on my truck. Glad that I got all the pieces to put it back together. This, combined with a dual master (and everything else new), really takes away any worries when using the truck.

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
Make sure you fix it. My 79 bronco is a 4 speed and mine did not work until I stopped at work on day to shut the gate. When I turned around to lock the gate it rolled across the highway and into the ditch. I had to put it in 4x4 to get it out. The worst part was there was a bunch a guys across the road watching and laughing.

Re: E-Brakes...How many of you have them?
I use mine, my truck was a long bed flat bed. I cut the frame and now i had to do all the things to shorten everything. So my e-brake cables are all new.
