Build front suspension before or after mounting the engine?

Always figured 1 coil equals 2 inches
2 coils 4 inches.
If your only going 4 in the rear I would not cut a coil with your current 2.5 spindle.
Or... clip a coil and go down 6 out back. 👀👀

This is what happened to me , the original plan was to just go spindles and 4" out back and I bought the 4" rear springs that Larry (GR8-68 ) changed out from his build to go to 6" Then after seeing the stance on his I had to switch gears again and go farther with my drop to match where he ended up . It's a never ending game of constant changes and more parts to get where you want to be .

Larry if you read this you cost me a bucket full of money !

I had the false impression a 1" (aka 2") drop coil didn't drop a truck any further than a 2.5" drop spindle already would.

If the stock height coils work toward my 4" & 2.5" goal then I'm good to use them. Hopefully I won't be disappointed I didn't drop it further The plan is for an originalISH build.

I'll let you know how mine sits later today , providing parts arrive (no mail delivery here today ) Dropped in the engine and bell housing , Cut 1 coil off stock springs and using 2 1/2 drop spindles with new Moog ball joints . My other 67 short bed frame is only getting the front springs cut 1 coil and I'll be taking the 4" rear springs off this frame to use on the other frame and changing them to 5 " with a 1 inch block on this frame . should be interesting to see the difference between them side by side .

Nice Grumps. Looks like energy suspension for your sway bar. I'm using the same, and their mount for a 400TH. What's your drive train?

'71 truck 350 4 bolt to a stock 67 bell housing to a Muncie M22 Rock crusher to a custom drive shaft to a stock 12 bolt 3.73 factory posi to 29 x 15.5 x 15 Mt tires on the rear . I'm building this truck the way we would have done it in the early 70's .

I'm new to the 67-72 side of these trucks, been a squarebody guy for 20+ years.
I've always clipped 2 coils and flipped the back. Always sat right by my standards, looks and sits like a 4-6 drop.
That's where I came by the 1 coil is 2" theory.
