Re: rear wheels
I like the front tucked and not as wide as the back. I went with 235 55 17. That size is not commonly available now with a matching 275 55 17 rear.
Back to your 10" rim, it is too wide already and that is compounded with the 295 tire. If you want to run wide rims and a wide tire in the back, modify the inner bedside. I have considered it on my own truck and still might someday. As I have said a couple of times in this thread, a 275 55 17 fits great and is about the limit. A 295 55 15 just bows out too much and is way too wide. Regardless of rim width on a low truck.

Re: rear wheels
275 is too wide for a 7" rim IMO. I would do the 4.5" backspace 8".
I have a big block 1/2 ton 71 GMC in the yard that has 255 70 mounted on a set of 8" factory rallys from a square body. They are a good fit for the 8" rim. Truck has 225 70 15 on the front and they are slightly narrow for the 8"rim. If I had a factory 7" wheel I would switch to that on the front.

Re: rear wheels
4 seems about the max on the front, and even they rub when 2 1/2 dropped spindles are used. Thats why you see guys trimming control arms which seems less than ideal to me...
Zero offset wheels are ideal for one of these trucks in the rear. 4.5 bs on an 8 rear and 3.5 on a 7 front if its lowered. IF it has the 70-72 wider axle housing. Once again, to repeat myself, 17 wheels just about the BEST mod to my truck. I would do EXACTLY the same thing again except Hankook discontinued the 235 55 17 front that matches the 275 55 17 rear. Very few options for tire size I went with 7 years later so I would consider 18s.

My truck used to have 15x8 wheels all around, but I also have a 72 rearend, which is wider. The standard backspacing for an aftermarket 15x8 is 3.75" which was the backspacing on mine. I can not stress enough that you will HAVE to get a wheel fitment tool and get the proper measurements for backspacing before ordering or changing anything else.

Re: rear wheels
A tool just like this.
Best money spent considering cost of wheels. https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...1201/overview/ If you’re more industrious you can make one from a piece of angle iron, some ready rod and nuts and washers. |
