Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
A little change to the grill; painted the GMC letters. I think that is about where I want it now.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Well I got a couple new goodies in the mail today. New cluster bezel and brake pedal pad. Unfortunately I cannot mount the gas pedal as I just realized the floor pans have been replaced by previous owner and they never re-installed the ball joints for the pedal. Bummer.
I also added some under-dash gauges I had laying around as I am trying not to spend too much money right now with everything that is going on. I'm the kind of guy that likes all of my gauges to be in the factory spot so when I can spend some money again, I'll be getting rid of the under dash gauges and putting in a factory tach gauge package. NOTE: I didn't drill any holes in the dash for these gauges, haha. I used the existing bolts for the column cover and the heater control. Boom. But I think everything looks juts a little better than before.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Well I got a couple more things accomplished. I replaced the HD drive shaft carrier bearing this week and posted about it mostly on this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=656307 Other than that I installed a solid state voltage regulator and now my 10DN alternator is finally charging correctly! So that is all good things. Sorry no pics right now....

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Well after a few good runs on the freeway with the new carrier bearing, I am quite satisfied with the overhaul. Very smooth. However, I still get unwanted vibration during hard acceleration and at idle for that matter. I've owned at least half a dozen 350 powered trucks over the years and have never had any vibration on acceleration. The engine just feels stiff.
Looking closer at the engine mounts, it appears they may be aftermarket replacements. I've had bad experiences in the past putting asian made mounts under an engine. My V6 G-van shook something awful after putting in "new" mounts. I finally had to track down a GM dealer that had the original mounts and buy them. After the GM mounts were installed, the van smoothed right out. SO, I went ahead and found a NOS set of V8 mounts on eBay and bought them for the truck. When they get here I am going to swap them out and see if some of the nuisance vibration clears up.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Got my NOS engine mounts today! Naturally, I couldn't wait, I went right out and installed them. I've never changed out early 350 mounts. And man, GM got it right when they got rid of these mounts and went to the 73-87 style. Those are butter compared to these. It took me forever to get the passenger side center bolt to line up and go in. Super frustrating. Of course, I was doing all this with only jacks in my driveway on my back...so I guess that was to be expected.
Anyways, I am so happy I changed them out. I thought the truck had aftermarket replacement mounts installed because there was so much vibration. It turns out the mounts were the originals and just completely worn out. I went out for test drive and the truck is night and day difference! So much smoother. Little by little, she becomes my truck.

Went out for a little cruise today and a wonderful family "social distancing" BBQ. Got home just as the sun was going down. It was a nice break from quarantine life.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Welp, I'm sure most people will consider this a step backwards, but I needed to sell the torque thrusts to help fund some new wheels. So I'll be running steelies for a bit. Got these late 60's Buick 15x6 steelies and hubcaps for almost nothing. I got some GMC center caps coming to replace the Riviera emblem. I think they're kinda cool looking.
My plan is to install turbine mags with 275/60/15's all around. I had this set-up on my '78 and loved it. I like the vintage vibe over the modern pro-street look. Let me know if you think I am crazy. Haha.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
To each his own! That beauty would look good with any wheels on it. Choose the one you want any roll baby! Who knows, maybe in 20 years you’ll want a different look again. I personally like the idea of having a set of 20” chrome Coy’s and flip over to a set of white stock steel wheels with the PO8’s when I feel like it. Congratulations again on that cool truck!

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
I really like the black on your truck. Its not super deep but looks great. Its almost a semi gloss but a little more gloss (if that makes sense?). I guess Id have to see it in person to figure it out ... Id love to achieve that look on a truck or a car.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Thanks! I'm not sure what type of paint the previous owner used, but it was a matte paint. I had to buff to shine after I removed the shop lettering. Didn't have a choice. Now it looks kind of dark chocolate-y in person.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Finally got the updated gas pedal installed. I used the bracket sold by '70_402 here on the board and a gas pedal assembly from eBay. Very happy with results, although I feel it is a little too close to the brake pedal. But I can live with it.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Getting a little more done on the truck. We signed up for the hotrod power tour this year and it has been moved to August 23rd. So I got a couple months to get everything squared away for the tour.
This past weekend I rebuilt the QFT carb and I'm glad I did. All the seals were dried up from sitting and there was gunk built up in both bowls. Running way better now...although the idle still likes to move around for some reason. Not sure if the spring is weak on the idle screw or what is happening. I've checked and triple checked for vacuum leaks. oh well. Here is a short list of things I am going to be fixing/changing before the power tour: 1. New a/c compressor, check for leaks and replace whatever else needs replaced to get the a/c back in working condition. 2. Get rid of that ugly step bumper and get a proper one on. 3. Re-do the driveshaft carrier bearing, it didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped. 4. Replace rear u-joints. 5. Fix the ventilation flapper under the cowl. 6. Maybe tires and wheels? 7. Maybe have trans rebuilt. At minimum replace shift shaft seal. I also might pull apart all the front end sheet metal and clean up fender wells and rad support. Tired of looking at the surface rust. All the sheet metal needs re-aligned anyways. That's all I can think of right now that I want to do. Hopefully I can get it all done before Aug 23rd!

Here is a couple pictures of the carb and intake after clean up and a rebuild. I forgot to get a picture of it installed. I also got rid of that crappy glass fuel filter and replaced with proper hose and metal filter.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Got the new Fan clutch in today! Fan is painted up and ready to rock. Got the new compressor installed and waiting for new TXV, condensor, and filter/drier to show up. Once I get all these parts mounted I can finally pull down a vacuum and see if we have any leaks!
I miss having access to a sand-blaster...sigh. Painting these little parts just doesn't bring any joy when you wire wheel them. Doesn't leave a nice finish like a sand-blaster.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
Well I know my thread isn't that interesting or a crazy build, but I'll keep on posting progress.
Got the new condenser installed as well as the new compressor. Took brackets and radiator out and gave them a little touch up of paint. Everything is looking just a little bit better. Went ahead and flushed all the lines and tubes as well. Adjusted POA valve to 26 psi and checked its operation. This truck was supposedly converted to 134a before I got it, but apparently they didn't bother adjusting the POA before because it tested at 29.5 psi which is the factory setting for R12. Still waiting on the filter/drier and TXV to show up this week. Hopefully next weekend I can pull down a vacuum on this thing and see what we get.

Re: 67 GMC 1500 Project
It doesn't have to be anything extreme to be interesting. What you're doing is a good approach - make upgrades and changes as you go while keeping the truck driveable. Tearing it down like I did and starting over means you don't get to drive it for quite some time and it costs SO much money.
