Re: Exhaust too loud

So do your tail pipes go under your axle? Hard to see from the pic

Re: Exhaust too loud

I have the gigantic Super Turbos but honestly, still too loud for my liking. Def better than the garbage flowmasters put on before me. If I were still trying to quiet things down though I’d just go to a junkyard and grab a pair of mufflers off of a modern truck.

May not be any quieter than what you have now . New mufflers are made to go with cats which quiet down the exhaust by quite a bit . I had to take a cat off my 87 Suburban and put a straight pipe in its place to the muffler cat was plugged the truck had a completely stock exhaust. Man was it loud until I put a replacement on

Totally. Kind of what sucks about switching mufflers -- it's always a trial and error affair to get what you want. I just recall wandering around in a yard 1 or 2 years ago and saw like a early 2000s GM truck with the bed off, and the one muffler on it looked enormous. Figured it's gotta be doing something and I can't imagine the yard would charge much for it (Dynomax's are pretty cheap as it is though)

Re: Exhaust too loud

Yeah a bit tough to see but the tail pipes exit just behind the rear tires. You can see them in this pic just behind the rear tire.

Re: Exhaust too loud

It's been a while since I looked into quieting down the exhaust. If I remember correctly turbo style mufflers are pipes with holes muffler and the "flow" type are a walled type baffling system.
Turbo types are quieter than the flow type. Thrush makes a turbo and so do other companies, Google it......
And if you really want to blow your mind, do some in-depth research into The "J-Pipe"...I got lost in the Math!

Re: Exhaust too loud

Without catalytic converters, any performance muffler will be loud.

Re: Exhaust too loud

On my LS swap, I ran 2.5” true dual all the way out past the rear tires with an Amazon 2.5” stainless kit of elbows, straights, u’s, 90’s and 45’s which was a challenge, but have Speed Engineering long tube headers, to Flowmaster 8” catalytic converters, then placed these Jones Exhaust mufflers above the trailing arms just below the deck of the bed….then zigzagged out the back.

I am VERY VERY pleased. I didn’t want drone, loud, or annoyance, and the sound WOT is amazing. That said, I left my truck running the other day to walk and get the mail - on my way back I thought it had stalled until I got maybe 100’’ away, at which point I could begin to hear the idle.

Highly recommended setup for a nice neighborhood-friendly but good sounding truck
