Your honey hole is an even better find, especially if you plan on doing another truck in future.
Thanks rian, the burb isn't too bad, but still tons of work to get it where we want it. And the truck parts find is definitely a score, I don't know about another truck though

Nice work!

Thanks, it should be fine lol. This paint does fine with the cold, just takes a little longer to dry fully

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside

Yesterday I went with my dad to my favourite little goldmine and picked up a bunch of parts, my dad got a really nice 67-68 slope nose hood with the trim and all the letters, a set of really nice suburban barn doors to replace his rusty ones, two partly damaged 67-68 Chevy grilles to weld together to make one good grille plus the aluminum trim and Chrome headlight bezels. He only paid $300 for all of this. Here is the grille I just finished welding together (the wood is just screwed in to help with alignment)

And I also pulled this radio delete plate from a 64-66 gmc 4x4, I only gave $10 for the mirror and radio plate

Nice Junkyard finds.
I see you cut out that section of frame to install your ps box.
Will you be welding that section back in, or do have some other idea?

Thanks, yes I will be welding it back in, I just need to get some welding gas since flux core isn't going to cut it on something as important as the frame.

So, will you then use longer bolts through the full width of the frame channel?

Nice parts day you guys had. Good to see you can still find trucks like ours in yards.

Hey Nik, that was some good finds in the salvage yard!

I've been enjoying your build and gotta say I was really impressed when I figured out you are doing most of your work outside. Wow! Your dedication is awesome.

Yes, they are definitely starting to get scarce, I'm glad I found this spot though.

Thanks Doug, yes working outside when it's zero degrees isn't fun but I just layer up in some warm clothes and do what I have to do, I'm not gonna let a little cold weather stop me

Things have been slow lately because of weather like this, but this evening I went outside and braved the cold to get some work done

I got the control arms, spindles and brakes installed on both sides, the springs will go in at a later date when I can get access to a spring compressor.

Before I painted my firewall I removed this little ID plate. I've been soaking it in vinegar for the past couple days and gave it a quick scrub with some steel wool, it removed all the rust and dirt very well, looks almost like new.

Do you have a source for the proper rivets ?

Very nice looking work. Your idea sounds good to me since they are run with a single belt in a serpentine system.

That bracket turned out great! I bet you'll be just fine running a single belt for the whole system and it looks like you've got room to mount a simple idler/tensioner pulley later if needed.

Keep it up!
