Re: 1970 c10 resto(2nd attempt)
Im at a stopping point now kinda. waiting for a little moola. I got the pistons all in and plastigauged and torqued down. Takes 35 ft lbs to turn the entire rotating assembly(no cam) As soon as i get a oil pump, and a gasket set i can finish up the engine assembly. then comes the fun of getting it in.
on a side note, engine disposal.... can i get cash for the scrap metal in the blocks? I have two short blocks i need to dispose of and if i can get cash out of them that would be awesome. Also would a used stock 350 crank, and rods, and aftermarket 30 over pistons be worth keeping or should i scrap them too. The parts seem in good condition. |

Re: 1970 c10 resto(2nd attempt)
As for money for scrap iron. Hell yeah well out here in ca its value is though the roof. $230 a ton for contaminated tin, like 300 a ton for clean tin. Usually If i fill my 67 long bed step side up to the sides with no engine blocks or anything heavy i get about 1000lbs. Aluminum is up to .66 cents a .lb and 07 plastic polymers are $2.50.

Re: 1970 c10 resto(2nd attempt)
Dumb question, but the crank looks like a 1-piece rear main crank and a 2-piece rear main block? Is it just the pict/me or is is a mis-match? Look at the picts with just the crank in there, I hope I am wrong but wanted to ask before you get too far into the rebuild??

Re: 1970 c10 resto(2nd attempt)
Maybe it is a 1-piece rear main block now that I look at it, the block seems to be relieved where the seal bolts on, sorry, just looked at the picts and didn't see any mention of a 1-piece rear main, block being used. As is you are getting the pan to match the 1-piece seal, right as I believe they are different?? Sorry to alarm ya, I was just looking and trying to think out loud and type at the same time.
Looks good! Mike Last edited by 70rs/ss; 05-14-2008 at 10:37 PM. |

Re: 1970 c10 resto(2nd attempt)
yea it is a 1 piece rear main, block and all. I originally didnt know there was a difference in the oil pan so when i test fitted the 2 piece oil pan, it didnt fit. But the new one i got was only 60 buck so i cant really complain. The picture you got up there doesnt have the 1 piece rear main installed. There is a little block that goes on the back like the timing cover(i found out later i didnt have this piece so i was like wtf where does this rear main go lol).

Re: 1970 c10 resto(2nd attempt)
Cool, I just wondered, I have put together 3or 4 of these in the last year or so, so when I saw the back of the crank I immediately went oh no! Then I looked at the block and realized it was a 1-piece block. Good score on that deal for $450 newer blocks are a better foundation (less wear, and fatigue) than the GEN I's and that rear seal will not leak!

Re: 1970 c10 resto(2nd attempt)
skip white off ebay. 30 bucks for the looms, 50 for the oil pan and 30 for the trans pan, the pans are real good quality.

Thanks for the info. I looked it up, but didn't find anything. Do you have a link to one of the items or the store?
