handsomerob;

just occurred to me....the brake booster you're running can be replaced with a dual diaphragm unit...mine is MUCH smaller than what you're running and completely misses the valve covers. Available from Carolina Classic Trucks.

O.k. some pics from today, dug into the Diff, slapped the tranny in it, moved the crossmember, removed an exhaust hanger etc.

I already have a 9" booster with new master ordered, along with a proportioning valve.

The new booster should give me 3/4" clearance between it and the valve cover. I will also be using a 12V vacuum pump to provide enough vacuum for the brakes.

Re: 572 update

Well drilled some holes today and mounted the tranny cross member, I had to move it back on the frame rails about 5 inches.

I also removed one of the exhaust hangers to allow for the installation of the crossmember.

I will be doing the ladderbar setup this weekend so I should have lots of pics to post.

So far no issues with the A/C box, I'll be replacing the whole system with new replacment parts and using an newer Compressor with some custom lines to interface new with old.

Rob, did you take so many pics of that plastic fuel filter just to see if someone was going to complain about it?

I noticed that too. Most people throw a fit when they are between the mechanical pump and the carb, because of the fire risk.

That filter was installed by whoever installed the 427 in the truck, they didn't have the return line hooked up at all.

I will be using a high flow electric pump and a high flow filter.

Well here are some pics of the ladder bar install, it was a long 8.5 hours of labour but I think it'll be worth it.

I'll have more pictures tomorrow.

Re: 572 update

Well went in and worked on the truck for a few more hours today took some measurments, found I had a mount slightly out so I cracked the spot welds and adjusted it a bit.

Due to the height of the leaf packs I had to fab up some custom spacers for the sliding mounts. I just used some square tube and welded washers to the ends; simple yet effective.

we'll be bringing the truck to a welding shop to get everything profesionnaly welded. I'd hate to have a weld break after mashin the gas pedal.

I'll have a few more pics to post over the next few days.

Re: 572 update

Nice project! How much room did you have for the valve cover on the driver side firewall? Mine was really close, so close i had to trim the firewall. It was with in a 1/2 inch on the passenger side.
