Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

back when I was in college I pulled up next to a state trooper at a light in my 72 and drag raced him, but it was my dad

I've never gotten pulled over in an old truck, and never gotten a ticket, just pulled over for this or that, but never speeding. Surprised considering how stupid loud my corvette was.

That's awesome...lol I once got escorted home from the town bar by the town cop. Unsure why he didn't just take me home, told me to follow him to my house. I had a few too many and if I was in the right state of mind wouldn't have driven myself.

Now, with my 69. I think I am bound to get a ticket with it after I get everything situated with it. Being around a military installation isn't a great place to be driving a truck that is loud and stands out in the rest of traffic. On top of it, the local cop's are honestly out to pull us over because they know we have to pay our tickets and have a pay check to do it with. I have been pulled over numerous times just to blow into their breathalyzer machine to see if I had been drinking. They call it random checks...lol I wasn't convinced IMO.

Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

I caught this ol' geezer speedin' across my yard in a pretty nice '66 Fairlane awhile back. Stopped him just because it was BRIGHT RED 'n LOUD .... let him go though, 'cause it was my Cousin
'66 Belvedere cop car belongs to our retirees org. .. Miami Police Vets Assoc. It's a pretty accurate clone of a 1966 City of Miami Police patrol car. We take it to our retirees events and some local shows and parades. It's fun at shows, 'cause it's not polite to touch peoples show cars... we welcome people to sit in it, take pictures of their kids in it... people DO get a little tired of the siren....

Not once in the 16 years i've been driving it. Not even pulled over. I've only ever gotten a ticket once and that was 10 years ago for rolling through a stop sign.

Agree with this 100%. Never have had a problem in a classic vehicle or "hot rod". The classic car culture here is insane, and the only time I have been pulled over in one is when the cop wanted to check out my ride.

Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

I was pulled over in my truck a couple of years ago because "It looked like you were speeding". I was following two other cars that did not apparently look like they were also speeding. I noticed the Police Captain was standing in a strange place other than that which they are trained to do for their protection and realised he was actually pulling me over for a seatbelt violation. He was a bit of an ass about it. I always tell people that loud pipes save lives (not just on motorcycles).

These trucks are very recogniazable. Most cops have good memories. He may have let you slide a time or two before and decided not to this time? Just a thought.

Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

I don't think so, its the end of the month and I have pretty good eyes. I even saw him when I got the ticket but didn't think I was speeding. In Boise if you drive at what feels the normal speed in almost every other city, you are speeding. We have limits that are just too low or at least lower than other cities. (School zones excluded of course.) We just don't have a lot of crime her and I see maybe 1 Police Officer every two miles or so. Sometimes more. I moved to Vancouver Wa for 7 years and not 1 ticket. Drove exactly the same.

Ps - Emmett is worse indeed.

Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

I never get tickets in my old trucks. Both my trucks are loud and my 1970 GMC is very loud. I dont really drive fast but I do like to stomp on the gas pedal in my '70. I have 4 vehicles and the ONLY one that gets me tickets is my new chrysler 300c. I got pulled over once in my 1970 but it was for seatbelts and the officer quickly realized I only have lap belts and then he just started asking me questions about my truck becasue he really liked it. When i drive around in my new 300c, cops are always looking at me when I go past them. When I drive around in my black 78 c10 with it laying on the ground and no mufflers, the police dont even give it a second look. Strange but true. I guess cops like old hotrods and dont like fancy new cars. Maybe when i am driving my old trucks, they think I am too poor to afford a better car and leave me alone haha.

Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

There used to be a Highway Patrol Trooper in my area, and I guess I must have pissed him off somehow. I have no idea what his problem with me was, but every time he saw me I got a ticket, no matter what. The last time he pulled me over he said "Where's your front license plate?"

I told him it was right there, on the front bumper.

He walked around to the front of the truck and I could see the steam start blowing out his ears. He stomped back over to my window and says
"Where the f#%&* is your front bumper?!"

I looked him in the eye and told him it fell off years ago, but that I was sure that the plate was on it when it did.

Yeah, I got a ticket for that, too.

I don't know what ever happened to that guy. He got called up during the first gulf war and never came back. I'm sure his guys fragged him.

All I know is that I haven't got a ticket since, and that's been like 22 years or so.

Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

That's the problem I had with my chief of police. Like harassing me. I got to where I would just pull over to the side of the street or something when he got behind me and make him pass me by. Didn't matter if I was driving or walking. There was numerous times I would be walking around with a Mountain Dew can in my hand, he would pull up and ask me if I was drinking a beer. I always had a smart comment to make back myself.

I was usually getting stopped around town at least every other day for him to check my insurance. Driving my buddy's 69 Chevy, I got a ticket for rolling a stop sign that I had clearly stopped at. Said because the truck rolled back wards slightly, I rolled the stop sign...lol It was a standard. Funny thing is, this was right by the school and the rich kids of the town had been rolling it before me. He liked to pick on me.... I gave him plenty of reason to back then. Only that once did he get me for anything. I beat him on underage drinking charge cause I didn't get breathalyzed or anything, used to cruise around town with no license, and several dumb things teenagers liked to do back in a small country town.

My Officer was very nice about things, said he even got a ticket recently which I am not so sure of but I am 41, my long hair is long gone and I don't want any "new" relationships starting up if you know what I mean.

That's the thing -- an officer can be courteous & polite (maybe even friendly) and treat you with a degree of respect, and even if he writes you a ticket, you won't be as inclined to think of cops in a negative way. Unfortunately, not all cops seem to realize that, and I think their attitudes tend to create a poor image of cops in general.

I will say that the few times I have been pulled over, the officers have, for the most part, been polite and respectful -- and I have always reacted in the same way.

Justice would be to issue you tickets in both vehicles when you're speeding.

You should celebrate the fact that you got away with it in the Outback, not pout that you got caught in the truck!

What are you going to "fight" exactly? That you didn't get enough tickets when you drove a Subaru even though you deserved them?

My vehicles rated, in order, 310hp (that's the GMC!), 502hp, 502hp, 505hp, and 510hp. And I haven't had a ticket (or been pulled over) since 1986. I don't run front plates (though we're required to) and I run drag radials on the street. Must be more to it than luck!

Someone above (not you) is seriously touting the fact that he doesn't even have a front bumper, but it's OK because the cop went to war in his place and probably got killed. WTF is wrong with some of you? I know I'm a grumpy old man but come on...

Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

I am not pouting, I am asking a question. That is all friend. To be clear, I do not support the comment about a Police Officer getting killed. In my opinion, the limits are too low in Boise. That is why I have received tickets and I was curious if driving my truck daily would exacerbate it. But that is just my opinion. Let's take it down a notch and just end this thread. It's gone bad.

Re: Anybody get more tickets because they drive these trucks??

I think we should start a thread and post nothing but positive things the police do. Like the cop that holds a guys hand who was just involved in a car accident and is trapped in his vehicle. Trying to comfort the guy and reassure him he isn't going to die, even though every limb is broken with compound fractures and things aren't looking good with EMS over 1/2 hour away. Or the cop that solves a burlgary and gets the woman's original wedding ring back for her and she is so happy to get it back she breaks down in tears. Or the cop that gets a confession from a Grandfather who molests his grandkids and put him away where he belongs.

There are a lot of jack@$$ cops out there, I realize that. But there are also ones who genuinly care about helping people.
