Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
I cut a piece of 3/16 vacuum hose and put it around the hole for the steering column I slit the hose so it would go into the sheet metal. Maybe it will cut down on any squeaks . Not that I could hear it anyway.
The seats are out of a crysler new Yorker . They were free. The head rest have to go. The six way all work. I will change the seats later on. I just need to get the truck moving under it's own power. Hope to get the motor in and running this week. Rich |

Thanks Kim.'
I really had problems with this paint. Most of it was the humidity. I am not a painter but I have painted about ten vehicles and never had this much trouble. The glass co is to be here Friday To do the windshield. Rich |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
looks fantastic, love the color! There must be a lot of support in the cab to hold the front and rear glass in! Looking at the cab, there's only those for little supports holding the roof up! I guess the glass is part of the cab structural integrity?

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Dne There isn't a lot of support. A roll over would flatten it pretty easy.
I will try to update this thread this evening. The last month or so has been a struggle. One step forward and three steps back. The back glass was a bear to install. It took a friend and me 2 1/2 hours just to get the glass in the rubber in the cab. I have done in the past simmler glass with the same rubber and you could put the glass and the middle rubber in about 30 minutes and I have the special tool install the center rubber. The glass co put the front new windshield in and didn't get the chrome in right .I have called them and even stop by and ask them when they were going to fix it. They still haven't showed up. Lucky I haven't paid them yet. They also were going to tint the rear window when it was out and they couldn't do that . I don't know if there is a problem with the rubber I ordered or the truck cab, cense I had so much trouble with the rear window. I will try to get some pic today. Rich |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Yes i had hard time with my back window too. The after market back window i got was already tinted but the shape wasn't quite right, with the factory type seal it wasn't too hard to put in but the glass corners were a bit short and the seal wouldn't seal the gap propely, you could see inside the cab around the upper edge of the corner, had to go with a fatter seal which work ok but still not the best fit.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
I can tell you from experience that these trucks don't handle roll overs well.
Doors fly open, glass comes out, roof comes down and the occupants take a beating. My windshield went in fast, the back Window took a while to insert the key

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
I got the Omega gauges installed in my dash panel, Made a plugin from the steering column wire loom from the Chrysler donor car. I have 2 plug instead of wiring each gauge separate.
Got my 20 circuit wiring asm installed and the interior is all set to go. I got the wiring off of ebay and it went pretty smooth . no problems at all. There was no instructions with the wiring . All the wires was labeled. The motor is running and so far everything is fine. Rich |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Thanks everyone for the comments.
Got the power ant installed and working. Run into a problem with the steering column I got from Brothers. It didn't have a slot for the neutral safety switch and backup lights. I called the number that was with the instructions and it was Classic performance products. even though I ordered it from Brothers . The person told me that the chrome steering columns doesn't come with a set up for the neutral safety switch. I ordered a switch that mounts on the trans . and a toggle switch for the backup lights. Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Got the insulation done and the carpet installed. The carpet I got from Lowes for $28.00.
Working on the headliner now. Trying to decide if the insulation will stay stuck to the roof when it sets in the sun. Any ideas? Will get some pic soon. Rich |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
I am now tearing into the steering column and brake pedal project and using the camaro pedals and mounts. I got them cut and somewhat fitted and got my column where I like it, I think. Do you have any more pics of yours. I see your pedal mount is mounted pretty high, did you have to lengthen it and did you you reshape it to allow for enough travel?

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Stepside I did add about 21/2 inches to the pedal asm , and I had to cut in such a way it would raise it off the floor a little. My pedal is 6 in from the floor measuring straight down from the pedal. Sorry I don't have any more pictures to show you. I still use the same brake light switch. That is what that hole is for in t6he front of the asm. Hope this helps.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
That does help! I was looking at how high you mounted your master (which looks good) and then looking at my bracket and knew you had to do something. Thanks for the info.
