Re: Good start to a project...

Next up, the factory S-10 shifter was a total eye sore to me, I cut it off below the boot and welded on this more period correct Fenton 500 shifter I picked up at a swapmeet for $40. Add a Hurst white ball with the 5-speed pattern and I'm much happier.

Re: Good start to a project...

Last up for now, I finally scored a used sport bumper. It's in such good condition it's now the nicest chrome piece on the truck. I finally have a good way to mount my swapmeet '67 farm plate and my old plate frame I had on my '72.

On a side note, I'm waiting impatiently for my vintage metal flake blue steering wheel I bought to show up.

***Before 67_C-30 jumps me about the engine progress ...I have been collecting parts non-stop for it over the past few months and was going to pull it this weekend, but I have to help a buddy move, so it will happen within the next week or two.

Next update will have engine pics.

Now see, I saw an update an got all excited! I'm loving the direction of your build. The side molding really looks nice! I bet that warmed 250 really is gonna be pretty fun with the T-5.

Re: Good start to a project...

Update time, the engine is out, and my checkbook is working overtime with all the little things that go along with something like this. The engine has been completely resealed (minus headgasket), I have new waterpump, fuel pump, belts, hoses, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, Pertronix kit, clutch, freshly gone through radiator, new driveshaft, the list goes on. I still have lots to do and I'll only update as I make good progress. I'm hoping I have time this week to paint the engine, it's been too cold the last few days. All the brackets and such that go on it are already sandblasted and painted.
The chrome valve cover in the pic is an extra I had to keep it covered, I wont be using it.

The last pic is a teaser of the engine color, VHT metallic burnt copper, I wanted something wild to go with the '60's theme. I think it will contrast the truck in a good way...I think.

Re: Good start to a project...

That bad boy is shaping up to be a very unique build, which is kinda hard with these trucks.

I hope so, I'm ready for a different approach since selling my '72.

Re: Good start to a project...

I figure this could use an update, as of today all I have left to do is bend fuel lines from the distribution block to the carbs and rebuild them. Progress has been slow while I clean and detail everything, and modify and problem solve aftermarket parts...shocker, right?

Re: Good start to a project...

I wanted to get a pic with the O'Brien Truckers air cleaners on, but I somehow managed to order the wrong size bases! The correct bases should be here next week.

Re: Good start to a project...

It's looking great Chris. I bet that sweet 6 and 5 spd will be fun. Are you going with a split manifold and dual Smittys exhaust by chance?
I remember back in the day guys would run dual Hollywood mufflers on their 6's. They gave a deep rumble. I bet your dad remembers those.

Looks awesome Chris! You can't beat a modded inline and 5 speed. Very unique build.

This is phase 1, if I really enjoy this setup some headers from Langdon's and a cam are next.

Thanks Scott! I'm at that,"all most to the finish, really want to get it running quick" stage.

Man, I was not sure on your engine color choice,, but I think that looks so cool with all the accessories bolted on. Bold choice that works.

Thank you, I was uncertain myself, but the small voice in the back of my head kept egging me on to paint it that color and I caved.

I felt the same way until I saw the dressed engine. It's got a vintage look thats age appropriate. 50's Olds engines were gold.

Wow Chris... This sure looks different than when I saw it a few months ago... It is looking good... I am going to be out there Thursday-Sunday... Maybe I can catch up with you... So you aren't going to run the Chrome wheels?... Looks good... I am doing a 5/6 drop on my truck... I am waiting on getting the Trailing arms an 6" springs from ECE and the Front Disc Conversion for the front... Do you have a need for a 4 wheel Drum Brake power booster?... I have the stock one off of my truck... Dan

Oh you hear the voices too?
Sometimes it's good to think outside the box and just go different.
