Just found this thread - freaking awesome. I remember your original post in the steering/suspension section and always wondered if you scrapped the idea or went ahead with it. It made my day to see that you were able to take it around the block under its own power (as a '69 C10 this time). Nice work!

Thanks, that means a lot to me. I was starting to think not many were interested in this project. I have been having this terrible binding issue with the front end which I believe is the viscous coupler in the transfer case, feels like my '63 K20 making a sharp turn while in 4 low, in the middle of summer. I found a np 149 that came out of a Silverado SS which is AWD that I'm going to try and purchase but they are expensive and rare. I have also thought about a np241 so I could leave in 2wd and shift manually when needed but that kind of takes the cool factor out of it.

We've had issues with the 241 in certain cases, seems in 2wd you can abuse them, but in 4 hi they just can't take the power. I personally think you'd be happier with the transfer case out of the SS, at least I would be.

Yes, I think you are correct. I found a 149 that will be coming my way for a good deal, always a bit sketchy buying something like this sight unseen.

So I did just about the worst think you could do to an AWD transfer case, aside from throwing it across the garage, I took the front driveshaft off and went for a spin. Ah I'm so crazy! Back to reality, I did this because there is a "test" to see if the viscous coupler is working or locked up, mine was locked up, of course, so I had nothing to lose. Pulled out of the driveway and the front was smooth as silk, so this confirms that the t-case is a paperweight. I have a 149 that will coming in a few weeks so in the mean time I'll fab up the raised bed floor.

So great to see this build sir. I am in the process of doing the same with a Yukon AWD donor vehicle. Love the look of the truck and the wheels you've chosen. Do you know the BS of the wheels? Did you ever get the transfer case issue lined out?

Thanks for the kind words, the transport wheels have some crazy back spacing, like 6" but if your going with a Yukon then that will work just fine. The stock c10 axles/front hub flanges are to large in diameter so I believe they either run spacers or turn them down, I think!
The t-case is going to be shipped Monday and keeping my fingers crossed its all good, just never know. It's a np/nvp149, all mechanical, nothing electrical, can't wait. Good luck with your project and ask all you want about lowering that Yukon!

I was thinking the Yukon axle width would be wider than the original C10 and that was why you used the backspacing. I'm just now getting started so I will be needing advise. Was very glad to see the steering shaft you came up with, that one had me worried.

The width is much wider but the new wheel style makes it so the wheel is flush with the just inner fender lip. The rear I cut the inner out and rolled the lip, then pushed the lower fender out for a pro touring/ wide body look, it's only pushed out 3-4"
The steering was $$$, the rack takes a 17 mm if I remember and it was a double u joint, then a DD to a 36? Spline. Well not a lot of money but for what your getting, then again steering and brakes are the most important

Have you seen the guy over on the 60-66 suburban build forum? He bought a trailblazer SS and cut the body off and grafted the burban on top, super cool. Today I bought a gasket to go between the transfer case and transmission, all along knowing full well that I should wait until the case is in the proper spot. Trying to wedge 80lbs of metal while laying on back into a spot that it just barely fits, I tore the gasket. Perfect, I knew I would, just had to get it out of the way. So off to buy another and install tomorrow night, without tearing it.
