Re: Daughters 68 step...
Just did a big order from GMC Pauls just now. A bunch of $$$$.$$ and this should just about get the truck back on the road. I hope to find a 67/68 front grille used but not dented up to go on it. Maybe some fenders to if I'm lucky.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Thanks,
I have a dead line of Dec 31,2019 to have this truck out of my friends shop. He is selling it and I need it done, well at least drive-able anyway. The bed will not be done by then I'm sure, seeing how I don't have one for it yet. I know I can't cut the LWB bed down before then. I just want it moving under it's own power by 31!

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Andy, you are a busy guy for sure!! I am sure you will get it done.
Question out of curiosity for a relative newbie to the board, why do you have your posts in bold red? Not an issue for me, just curious if there is a back story.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Would you meet me part of the way if I was to come that way say to summit racing are some other place?
Could you send me some pictures? I went over today and did some welding and tearing a part the doors to get ready for new parts I ordered last night. I was very pleased with what I got done. My welding is getting better and better but it's still got a way's to go. I got all the door hardware removed from both door's and even got the door latches blasted and blown off. Ready for primer. Got the glass out but have to reseal the drivers side it came out of it's brace. Have to look and see if my old 71 window cranks will work. They look better than these do.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
A little more done. Got the vent wings out after them soaking in PB blaster over night the top 3 screws wouldn't move yesterday. They came right out today!
Got the windows both a part and blasted the supports and channel's they run in. Glove box hinge blasted, and front park light housings done and the front grille is looking much better than I first thought it would. Still working on it though and waiting to see how it turns out.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
We set the cab down on the SWB frame today. Getting ready to start cutting out the old rocker panels. She was all excited, then I told her it had to come back off once we have them tacked in place. The mounts set down good and bolts lined right up. All new hardware.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Before you put a bed on the SWB frame could you measure the distance from the back of the cab to the first bed mounting bolt hole and then measure from that bolt hole to the other bed mounting holes. This will help me if I shorten my own LWB frame. Thanks D

Re: Daughters 68 step...
You may know this already but shine a light from inside the cab on your gas filler panel to make sure you don't have pinholes in your welds. Due to the temperature (condensation) difference inside/outside the cab this will get moisture in the body filler and rot from the inside out. I wasn't aware of this and had a bunch of pinholes in mine before someone told me to do this.

Thanks and yes I have been checking it. I finished up the passenger side repairs today. Being my first welding on sheet metal panels I had a good friend come over and give me some good instructions on heat settings and feeding. He is the retired welding instructor for the local vocational school here. The welder had .030 wire in it and he suggested we swap it to .024 and man what a difference it made. I had a good day. I started working at 9:30am this morning and I'm basically 2 days ahead of what I thought I would be on the truck right now. Is it perfect heck no but man it feels good to know I can repair sheet metal panels if I ever have to again.

Thanks for the measurements guys! Now I know where to move the trailing arm cross member too. On the blueprint sheet the 0 line is the front of dash. All measurements are taken from this point. Forward( to the front) backward ( to the back).

I have been informed that EZ grind wire is the real deal. I will refrain from using that (P) word Pro that is. I purchased some from my Local welding supply store. I got it at a good price. It's a little bit higher on e__ -Bay I have not used it yet. Because I am not to that point yet. This is just a Suggestion. This throwing that out there / .
