Daughters 68 step...
Well we got the motor about done today.
Got the oil pump in and primed and oil pan timing cover installed. Taking the aluminum intakes tomorrow to get blasted and cleaned up to pick which one to use. The other one will be going on the Ramp truck at a later date.

I like the performer, doesn't have the EGR doo-dad on it...unless it has corrosion issues on gasket surface...

I'm going with that one as well I hope. The GM intake has some bolt holes cracked at the edge so it may not be worth it. They both where given to me so I'm going to have them cleaned up and look at them.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Thanks, she wanted a LWB so that's what she got. My daughter and Donnie the guy who gave her the truck. Still has his dad's name on the original title with 63,000 miles on it. His dad bought it new in 68.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Dropped off the 2 intakes and the shop owner told me they would be $35.00 each to be blasted and cleaned. I was a happy guy. Got to the shop and pushed the truck up to the garage door to pressure wash it. We sprayed it down good late this afternoon with degreaser and oven cleaner. Letting it sit over night and will spray it again in the am and start pressure washing all of it.
Got the Elderbrock carb back today after a complete rebuilding of it and fixed the throttle shaft on it. The linkage is tight as it was when new now. Ordered a gas tank to go out back inside the frame rails through Carolina Truck Shop in Spartenbugh SC today also. Matt & Paul members here opened this shop up in SC. https://www.carolinatruckshop.com/

My daughter has always loved my 71. This is going to be her's and I plan on making it right for her. New frame rail tank ordered today with EFI in it and Monday going to local transmission shop to get a 700-R4 for it. My good friend who is helping me is giving her a 78 Chevy truck front end for the 5 lug power disc brakes. I just have to swap it out.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
It's going to be a fun project for us I think. We have had a great week so far. My grandson has had a great time at the shop also with us. It is a blessing to have her and him share my love of these trucks.
My daughter took these.

I have plenty of pictures of it. This was the day we went and got it on the Ramp truck. First time we saw it in person. I had my friend putting air in the rear tire every turn of it until we got it loaded. Once I got it home I jacked it up and had tires put on both rims. They where used tires for free but will hold air until we decide on wheels and tires.

I went this morning and got a set of LT1 valve covers for it. Our good friend Bill in the pictures above gave me the trim for it.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Awesome pictures!!!
My 2 pickups have "holder" tires on them right now...LOL Is that a 8 for or 9 foot bed. I have read ere that a 9 foot bed was an option, not common, though. A long step bed sure is cool!!! |

Well we had to make a hurricane run down here to the beach. No progress on the 68 for awhile I guess.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Went and picked this short frame up today for $800.00.
Lowered 2" up front 4" out back. Power steering, disc brakes up front. 12 bolt rear end haven't checked the gear set yet. Both front and rear have been drilled for 5 on 5 and 5 on 4.75. So I can use car wheels are truck wheels. Right now it has the studs for the car wheels installed. Has dual exhaust already ran. Got the aluminum intakes cleaned up and bought a 3 spoke wood steering wheel for $85.00 for it. My new rear frame rail 20 gallon gas tank showed up today also. Plus new front trim. I pressure washed the frame tonight and will degrease it good in the morning then hit it again with the pressure washer and start running fuel lines and brake lines. Getting the tank installed and getting the motor in.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Got it on the lift in my buddies shop and started taking the fuel line out and brake lines. I ordered new fuel lines 3/8" & 1/4" return for it and new 3/16" brake line rolls for all the brakes. Both front disc & rear drum. New shoes out back wheel cylinders for it.
Tomorrow I'll take the brakes a part and clean up good have them all back together in time for the lines to get installed Tuesday. I got the 19 gallon fuel tank form "no Limit" yesterday and the front fender and hood trim.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Brakes are all took apart old lines all removed and new rolls of brake & fuel line ordered. I'm going 3/16" brake lines on everything and 3/8" fuel lines with 1/4" return lines for when I add the fuel injection.
The PO left the disc brakes ran to the back side of the A-arms I plan to run them to the front like a 71/72 factory disc setup. My plan right now is cut the old ones off and re-weld them to the front so it's all original looking. Lower ball joints, wheel cylinders, spring kits and shoes to.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
We turned the drums and rotors today plus took axles out and replaced the bearing and seals. Found out it's a 3.78 rear gear so it should make her a good cruiser with the 700-R4 transmission. Also started installing the No Limit 19 Gal aluminum gas tank.
My daughter hates spiders so she bombed the truck 3 times today to hopefully kill all the spiders and anything else in it.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
I got this off Ebay a few weeks ago for it. It showed up today.
Seller said it had been sitting in a wharehouse he had 5 of them. New repop's that he bought never used. Has some hair line cracks in it but after looking at it in person it's going in the truck as is. 67 Corvette steering wheel. $85.00, Will need a hub and I will make her a custom horn button for it.

Re: Daughters 68 step...
Got the rear frame gusset welded in for the gas tank and got the front brakes back together. Got the rear axles back in and hopefully we will have all the rear brakes done and all the fuel lines and brake lines done.
