Re: My new toy !!!

Nice find Spray Bomb! My opnion is to put the car away and start collecting parts to do the car right... As much of a fan I am of cutting stuff up and making it my own I would have to do that car 100% bone stock no matter how long it took... To your advantage Barret Jackson f'd up the market so bad and put numbers on stock numbers matching cars like that through the roof!!!!

Here are a few Pics of my friends ride.. He just won Hot Rod Drag week. Car has a Pro Charged 580 big block.. He ran 7.70s all week and drove the car over 1000 miles in 5 days pulling a trailer.. Check out www.1320video.com for some cool action! The pic with the big blower is from last year but check out the car with the 18x7s and 20x20's !!

How do ID if it's the original distributor ??? Thanks for the wheel ID info

To be honest, I haven't read the body tag yet
But it's the dark green, would that be the 57 Fathom ???

I plan to do it up Original, & maybe change stuff like the wheels
I'm going to completely go through the car inside & out, it'll be stock/numbers matching minus the engine & trans, wheels & tires

I won't be hacking it up

I agree for the most part that the through the roof prices are good for me, but it kinda sucks too
I never plan on selling it cuz I've always wanted it, so from that side it doesn't really help me that it's worth so much

But it'll be nice when it's done, I'm pretty much a perfectionist & want this car NICE !!! (funny thing is, it'll be the only shiny ride I own )

Sweet car ^^^

Re: My new toy !!!

awesome find!! The car was definitely a retro hot-rod with the guages, headers, and wheels.
I had a few 67 8 9 camaro's including Z's and SS's and the 69 Z is my favorite.
congrats!!

That's right, '70 was the first year to offer an automatic in the Z cars. I have a friend that has a '69 that he has had for about 30 years and all it is doing is sitting with 4 flat tires and he hasn't started it in about 18 of those years. He won't sell it and keeps saying "I'm going to get it going one day", Yea right. Every since I was a pre teen I've loved the '69 Z/28 Camaros, the price range has kept me from getting one but I did come across my '70 for a good price, a friend of mine had been after me for four years to buy his car and I finally decided to back in May of this year. It runs great and is a solid garage kept car, it just needs some TLC to be perfect. I can't wait to get back to the states to get working on it. Keep us posted on your project Z.

Re: My new toy !!!

The last 3 digets on the distributor would be 480. And the date will be before the engine assembly date or car build date. Go to camaros.net and post your pics. People there will love it. Your cowl tag will have a build date on it. Like 10A or 04c. for instance o4C is third week of April . If dark green,Fathom, it will say 5757, or 57 B if it had a black vinyl top. An interior code will be 3 didgits, 711 would black standard. if it is an LA built car it will not have a X code. a early Norwood car will not either. But it looks like a X77. Z28 without style trim. No chrome on the drip rail, fender openings, the vertical dividers on the tail lights, or the headlite bezels. also no louvers in front of the rear wheels, just the indentions where they would be.

Re: My new toy !!!

Check the dash for the protecto plate, It is like a metal credit card with info about the car on it. If not there go see the previos owner and offer her cash for it or any paper work she may have stuck back somewhere.
Be sure what you are getting in to before you take the car apart. A lot of people get in over there head, both skill wise and financially. And once you take it apart the value goes down some. And if you go ahead with it. bag and lable and take pics of EVERYTHING you take off. I mean every bolt and nut. Pay special attenion for inspection marks and such. An LA car has a build sheet on top of the gas tank. Drivers side toward front. You can usually see it sticking out a little at that corner. Careful with it. It is old and brittle. Drop the tank to get it. It will not be there on a Norwood car.I bought a dissasembled big block car and the guy trashed it. Thats what I mean about getting into it. Do your research first.

Re: My new toy !!!

Also check that alternator. Last 3 digits 837 If original. $1000, and check starter. My memory is getting bad. I think its 367 several hundred for that.
Any pulleys there? Deep groove?

Re: My new toy !!!

Wow man, thanks for the info

I'll have to go check out my numbers
I was wondering where the build sheet was, after I drop the tank, what would be the best way to handle it so it doesn't crumble ??? hairspray ???

Re: My new toy !!!

LA built car for sure. Car built 04D 4th week of April. Dist built March 4th.
Q427 / Q being the 17th work day of the month. It was the 427th body built that day. They also built Impalas at the LA plant. When you got the wheel code there did you see the YH in front of the numbers ? There are also 2 more numbers maybe on ther other side of the valve stem hole, some times partially in the hole. K is kelsey hayes. the manufacturer, 1 is for chevrolet.9 is the year. The next 2 numbers will be for month and day of month. It will be of coarse before the car was built. The heads will be 186s. The casting number and date is on top under valve covers. What is the assembly date on the block? It is in front of the passenger side head, and will be something like V0412DZ. The vin number may not be on that pad. They were moved to a rough cast area above the oil filter. It is sometims real hard to see. Especially when engine is in car. I don't know what to tell you about careing for the build sheet. Just be real careful with it. I also noticed the Master cylinder appears to be original, It should have US stamped in the machined flat on the front. May have to use a small wire brush to see it.

Re: My new toy !!!

Thanks for the complements guys. I just love old Camaros. A little eye candy for you. And hang on to those California tags on the Z. My orange bigblock car is the LA car i mentioned. And my white car is from Texas. Small world. I have been driving the red vert since 1989. Now if I just knew as much about my truck???????

Re: My new toy !!!

Some claim 041s came on zs in 69. I don't think so. I have to dissagree on the 492s also. But I've been wrong before. The only head comfirmed by the experts, Not me, is 186.And theyhad 202s. The SS 350 in 69 used 041s and 186s but with the smaller valves.

My dad bought one new in Jul of 1969, and he said it came with 492's on it. I don't know if was because it was a late prouction car, or what but he has always disputed what the books say. I also have heard that 041's came on them, but I've never seen that myself. Oddly enough, I have a set of 2.02/1.60 041's with screw in studs and guide plates, but I have no idea what they came off of. They are dated E 26 9 and F 10 9 making them late production '69 heads. I've always been curious as to what they they came on.
