Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

Just got this one recently. My Dad heard about it from a friend that knew a guy that knew a guy that was thinking about selling his truck. By the time the story got to us, the truck for sale was supposedly a GMC longbox 3/4 ton. Well, the GMC part was correct anyway. Turned out to be a 1969 GMC swb, original 396 truck, original paint. Just adds to my theory that if I hear of a truck for sale, I'll always atleast go take a look. Never know what you will find!

I found Ole' Blue about two or three blocks from my house. Was looking for a Chevy to replace the F^&% Ranger that someone gave me. $350 later the ole boy was mine

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

First saw Ole Pinky at our local Easter Weekend Car Show in 1997 or 1998. It had small block (painted pink) and the gauge surround and glove box door were also painted pink. It also had spinners on the center caps on the rally wheels. In August 2001 I went to our local annual Cruise afternoon downtown and there was Pinky backed up against the curb with a small pink For Sale sign on the dash, and the glove box door was chrome and the gauge suround flat black. The owner wasn't around so I took the phone number and called him the next day.. When I called him he asked me if I had opened the hood on the truck and said no I do not touch someones vehicle when they are not there. He wouldn't give me the price on the phone as he wanted me to see under the hood before he quoted me a price. When I saw the 396 under the hood I was happy but would have gladly bought the truck with the small block. I probably paid too much for the truck but rust free trucks are very hard to find up here in the GWN. I'm 60 now and unless I get destitute this truck will be in my Estate.

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

My first truck was my Grandfather's '70 Chevy C20 fleetside. He bought an '83 Chevy 1/2 ton and retired the 3/4 ton in '96. It sat in a field at their house for about 10 years before he gave it to me, I drove the hell out of it in high school. It's been retired again since I found the dually on Craigslist, its gonna be a daily driver for awhile while the '70 gets restored. I found the Suburban at the junkyard and saved it from a horrible death, hadn't done much with it. The '86 3+3 has traded hands many times between the family, we've got it again lol

71 SWB that was way out in the farmers field from the highway. I left a note on his door he called me back 6 months later.
$250 and I needed to put a new 250 6 banger and front bumper on it and a buff job.

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

Well this is a cool thread, I have 2 old trucks. When I was 16ish and cruising the strip, a guy had a 72 that was white and had (what I call zz stripes)on it and I thought it was cool. So when I totaled my 76 my dad said we would just get something diff. So I told him about a 72 my math teacher had for sell the cluch was out, but we picked it up for 250.00. I wish I had took some pictures when we brought it home, but we jumped into fixing it up. Through the years it's been fixed up several times and I've had it for 24yrs. After having this truck for awhile I fell in love with the small window 67s, and always wanted one, but never found one to buy. So a few years ago my wife and I traveled to oklahoma to visit her dad he's an older fella not in great shape and they really just sit around and watch tv. We were there for a whole week, and after 3 days of watching tv I had had it so I went for a drive. Country road after country road I turned a corner and I spotted this truck from a 1/4 mile away. When I rolled up no one was home, but I wanted to see it so bad I got out of the durango we had and walked through this person yard. I couldn't believe it a rust free 67 southern oky truck no front end no motor or tranny stepside. I suddenly realized I had 2 big oky boys standing behind me asking what I thought I was doing. All I could say was is it for sale. They laughed and said you'll have to talk to dad. So for 500.00 My wife and I pulled this baby 625ish mile's back to central Il at night little nervous with it sitting out for so many years with no front end, it held up on the u/haul car dolly I don't have a picture right now I've sat on it for a few years and just starting to do the frame. Hey sorry for the long post, but thanks for letting me share.

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

Found my truck when my dad brought it home for his girlfriend when I was 13. I fell in love with it then. I told them both I wanted that truck someday. When I was 27 she finially sold it to me. When I started restoring it, It was to far gone.

So now I have part of the frame, grill, engine, and trans from that truck.
71 GMC Longhorn donated the rest of the frame, and bed from the newspaper.
72 Chevy I found on cragslist dontated the doors.
70 GMC Cab bought by itself off craigslist (3rd cab)
Axles came from friends rebuilt 78 1 ton military truck. 60/14 w.4.56's and lockers f/r
so... I had to pick one so I said the newspaper. thats where the biggest portion came from.

everything else is out of the box new

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

Found mine on AutoTrader, in town, had been looking for months, but the price never matched the truck!!! Took the wife to look at it and she loved it. Picked it up the next day. While the PO and I were trading cash/title, he got a call from an agency that was interested in using his (my) truck in a commercial. He gave me the phone, made some arrangements, made the deal. They payed me $185 for the use of the truck. I was at the shoot and drove the truck, they would then cut...get the actor to sit in it...and film him getting out of the truck. While at the shoot I got to talking to people involved and they asked me to be an extra, paid me $80 to be in commercial. Made some of my $3600 I paid for the truck back.

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

Lets see, my 69 c10cst started off as a lwb fleetside used for hauling whitewater rafts and trash at the campsite I worked at. Boss man said he wanted it gone, I gave him $500 and drove it on home. Got the bobbed welding bed on now and am close to being street legal again. Sbc 350, t350

As for the big truck, 72 c50, I saw it on the side of the road out in a corn field...called the phone# on it and a short time later it was mine. This one is a bit more long term of a project. It came with a BB 366 tall deck, 5spd manual, 2spd rear.

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

I found mine parked behind a boat right across the street from the school I teach at. I tried for 3 years to buy it from the guy. He finally sold it to me because he wanted to get a speaker tower for his boat.

My dad bought mine from a friend of his. Growing up we always had lowered short bed trucks to pull my dads daycruiser around, and i have been hooked ever since. Have a safe and happy new year.

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

My father who was into cars was killed in Jan 2006 three months later my wife made me drive by this truck on the side of the road that was for sale. There were 3 or 4 guys around it at the time. I told my wife it'll be gone tomorrow. She said if its still there I'm buying it. The guys phone had been shut off and she was the first call he got when it was turned back on. He had 13 voice mails but he honored our deal. My wife says my dad made sure I got it.

My 67 C10 blue truck in my avatar was purchased by me from my father-in-law in 91. The family sold it to me just before he passed on. He bought it new. The green 67 C20 in my avatar was purchased by me from the guy who does my body work. He sold it on consignment.

Re: Poll time...where did you find your truck?

I'll just talk about the one that runs...LOL...It was across the street in the neighbors driveway. He bought it new. They retired and sold their house. He came over one day when I was heading off to work and told me to come over when I got home.

So I went over to their place when I got off work. He said Ill make you a deal you wont be able to refuse on my trucks (he also had a 73 3/4 ton 4x4) and a bunch of his shop stuff...air compressor, welders etc etc. He was right, I couldnt refuse it lol.

Im slowly updating to the look I prefer in a truck (Ive posted before pics somewhere on the site). Needs paint, some of the panels are a little wavy, little bit of rust in one fender. Ive had the mirror arms powder coated argent silver since this pic was taken.

Lots of other things Im working on so this one only gets a little bit at a time.

None of the above: I was at Pomona selling a '67 Cadillac. This guy pulled in with the truck and backed up almost over my head (I was sleeping on a cot behind my car after being up drinking all night: It's a Pomona thing; you'd have to be there!). So I got up, checked it out, and at the end of the day, I bought it!
