Poll time...where did you find your truck?

Ok...
Since Christmas is the time of giving...I was thinking which I know is dangerous. Most of us bought our truck and "gave" it to ourselves. So the question is how did you find your truck? I have listed six possibilities. For me I found the Circuit Rider in the Truck Trader in Knoxville Tn. the summer of 2001 while I was in search of a 48-55 Chevy 1/2 ton truck like my Dad use to have. But I found this loaded LWB BB 1970cst for sale and couldn't pass her up. Ok...now it's your turn...how did you find your truck? We want to know. Oh yes...the truck was located in Celina Tn.

Here is the truck as we brought it back from Celina Tn. in 2000. Still has original paint.

I was looking for a '67 to '72 to replace a '72 C-20 I sold. Found a '69 C-20 in the Recycler.com ads. Rode the train down to San Diego to look at it. PO picked me up at the train station in the truck. Ended up buying it for $1200 and driving it home to L.A.

Found mine on ebay - did not sell and it was relisted - my son and I where on our way to a Boy Scout camping weekend up at the Indiana Dunes and he thought it would be a cool idea to stop and "just look" at this truck he had found on ebay.
Looked at it and drove it - the auction was ending that morning so we hung around, it did not meet reserve so we haggled a price that included the PO delivering it to my house in Ohio while I went camping with the Boy Scouts.
The wife took delivery the next day.
It worked out very well.

Back in '97 I was looking for a full size pickup to tow and haul stuff. I had a '92 F**d Ranger at the time. I found my truck at a Chevy dealer about 60 miles away. Went up on a Saturday to look at and traded my Ranger in for it. Best thing to ever a happen to a Ranger.

The truck was the dealers toy and about a 8 year old frame off restoration. It has seen a lot of miles and some transformations since I bought it. I lowered it, rebuilt the big block, new wheels and tires, two exhaust systems, etc.

My Mate used to import old cars engines ect from canada to here in Aus, The 67 sat on a rack outside for months every time I went in to see him it caught my eye and just grew on me, one night when I went down to see him we had a few beers and next thing I owned it :S

I was cleaning up the commons area for the homeowner's association in front of the PO's house a block down from my house and he came out to chat. I told him that I really liked his truck and to let me know if he planned on getting rid of it. A year later his wife's business was having some financial difficulties and he needed money quick, so we made a deal. I like to think of it like he was just taking care of it for me until the time was right.

my dad has known about the truck since it was knew and a gas station truck. it went through 2 of his freinds as owners and the he got it. he still hasnt given it to me but i work on it and drive it 99% of the time so i like to claim it haha

I found my 71 in hendersonville, just riding the road. I am a "emblem watcher" and saw the super. I pulled over and started looking, cows had rubbed every corner and the engine was missing, trans hanging etc. I walked up to the house to ask and the owner still had the bb complete with spun rod bearing in his garage- did not have money etc. to rebuild so it sat. I brought it home needless to say and 5 years later, it was back together. The 4x4 I found while delivering a tractor during summer for the wife's uncle. Saw it sitting in a garden and recognized it as truck a friend's dad owned while we were in high school, knocked on the door and a little granny told me it belonged to her grandson. I looked him up and bought it, added 5 gallons of gas, battery, carb and one tire and drove it home, 30 miles- it had sat for 3 years and the guy had stopped driving because the carb puked its guts out. The 68 I found here and actual just got off the phone with the original owner. That was an interesting conversation, including how the windshield cracked.

Found my 72 back in 1994 sitting on the street not being driven. I kept buggin
the guy until he sold it to me. I found my 69 in the paper as an original one owner and could not pass it up.

Saw ad in LR, Ar. newspaper. Didn't buy truck he had for sale, another 68 C20 that was running and on the road. Said he had another parts truck in his barn. Completely original 68 C20. Ran when parked, AC even worked. Came back 2 days later with uhaul truck and trailer. Had to drag out of barn with uhaul, 2 wheels locked up and settled into ground about 4 inches. Got home and rolled off of trailer backwards towards garage. Planned on stopping in front of garage but brakes failed and rolled by garage into woods before stopped with parking brake. Lucked out and missed all trees. LOL. Ran the two days later, even AC worked after siting 13 years.

I was 13 years old and picked this one off the dealer lot with my Dad. I still remember the day. Sticker price was $4200, we ended at $3800.00 It became mine when I turned 21 and I've been taking care of her since. Dealer was in Clovis New Mexico

You forgot Classic Car Auctions!! I bought mine from a Kruse Classic Car Auction in Kentucky for $7,500 and out bidded 9 people to get it.

I found my `70 C-20 on www.oldchevytrucks.com. It was built in Atlanta-bought near Stone Mt-and I bought it from the original owner. I drove it home from Cummins Georgia. It took almost 2 yrs to finish as is today.

First one was from a "wheels deals" magazine. Second and third were off e-bay. E-bay gives you access to multiple vehicles but as the saying goes buyer beware. Never believe the descriptions unless you are able to view first.

Got mine from a friend in 97 swapped a 81 crew cab dually for it even up and drove it for 4 years til I started redoing it.

I found mine on craiglist. Bought within two weeks of when I first started searching. The guy brought it to my workplace to show me and the next day I took it off his hands. It was in stock condition with ralley wheels, factory a/c that blew cold and minimal rust. This is what it looks like now:

My truck belonged to my step dad. When he moved in with us, it was all he had. We worked on it together, learned a lot from him. He passed away with cancer in 1996 and had to sell the truck to pay some medical bills. Then in 1998, got a call from the guy we sold it to. He was selling it and wanted to know if I was interested. And the rest is history.... This pic is before I started taking it apart in August.

Found mine on a dealer's lot when it was five years old. It had just been traded in and had not yet been 'detailed', so I got to see exactly what I was getting.

shipped via rail to Salt Lake City, UT
then truck freighted and sold on 1/29/69 at Felix Chevrolet of Buffalo, WY
used on a farm for a length of time
sold and moved to Minnesota

I found mine on ebay and bought it 5 miles from my house...completely rebuilt it in four months...

I clicked found through a friend but I really simply bought it from a friend.

I purchased it because I needed a 4x4. At that time the 4wds around here were either rusted out plastic pieces of crap (73+) or useless CV front end (88+) trucks. I also thought the lines on it were a heck of a lot nicer than on the newer stuff.

15 years later I still use it as a 4x4 and I still think it has great lines.
