Yeah I'd have to agree. Too high in back. When we got it, with all the heated springs, we had no idea where stock hieght was. I checked the front springs/pockets, that was my first guess, but no luck. Im with ya on the ball joint to lower pivit hieght, thats really as low as you can go and keep a good roll center. I may do the panhard on saturday, I'll post some picts.

Todays drive to work taught me something. If you have the 'sparce' interior, with buckets, this is a plus. Driving to work, the fuel guage dropped to E, with nothing in the way, I just reached over and pushed on the sender wire. FIXED. pretty cool!

Tonight we're going back to the track to test again. It has developed some carb issues, so we'll see how it goes. My gues is that the front springs are too soft, and the truck will push more than before. - but the fact that it has consistant springs now, might just overcome that. I'll let you know wed how it goes.

Arrrgghhh! well, not so good. I,ve been fighting some carb issues. Yesterday I pulled the carb apart and it run great, Best it ever has. Off to the track we go. The good news is, I didn't spin out, and the new gas cap doesn't leak a drop. The first fewlaps felt OK, then the carb issues came back. We pulled off to the pits, and pulled the top off of the carb, totaly filled with rust and dirt. We cleaned it again, then pulled the filter. (should have done that the first time. The element is gone, you can see right through it. OK, put it back together. I ran about 6 more laps, then the stumbling came back again. Thats it. Time to see if it will make it home. Limping it on the side roads, the JT barely made it home. The nights best lap was a 56.16, not its best, but the times were more consistant, and it was easier to get around the track. Front springs are too soft. I have to think that the tank, lines, pump, and carb are filled with rust. This may be the real reason it was for sale. No biggie, this is the easy stuff to fix.

I need the clutch pedal for a few more weeks. - till the 5.3 goes in. Not sure we're going to Scottsdale or Dallas in the spring. We got slammed with chassis orders after SEMA/Optima, and I'm still playin catch-up. RTTC is a sunday only for us, and friday night. HAHA, I'm not sure the JT is a contender, She's a bit sloppy - so far. I see you got some new stickies

ahhh.......c'mon you know you could get it ready in a month!! No worries on the clutch pedal assembly, i have one in my 4x4 i can steal for now, it's not together, and when i get yours i can put it back in that truck. Take your time. Yeah we put a set of Nitto NT05's on the truck, i got tired of switching tires out for different events with tread wear limits, those are 200TW so I am good for all the events now. Wish i would have had those for OUSCI, the truck would have been way faster, the pirelli p zero's just are not cut out for that kind of abuse!! I just got done putting on a KRC pump, hopefully that cures the hiccups in the steering when i go lock to lock with it. Now just waiting on the diff to show up, so we can get both tires spinning again I lost the posi at Optima, only 2000 miles on it and blahhh it gave up on me. I guess some parts aren't meant to be behind a big block )
Are you going to end up putting a chassis under the chevy, or try and keep it on the stock rails? It would be pretty sick with a chassis under it.... hint hint. We are only signed up for Sunday too at RTTC II, too much money to do both days, but i just wanted to add it to the belt that we did it, also gives me a chance to dial in the truck some more for this year. I think i have a set of 5" or 6" drop springs for the rear of that truck, let me know if you need them, and I will see if I can round them up. |

No problem Matt. Run To The Coast is a "pro-touring" style event, like Run to the Hills in Pigeon Forge. The driving events include an autocross, a speed-stop, and laps on a large roadcoarse. Styling and build quality points are also givin out, to produce the rankings. Most of the competitors are smart, Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes, GT-40, Lotus, cars that you might think of on Road Atlanta. A FEW of us are foolish enough to bring out old pick-ups, and give it a go. As shocking as it is, Rob Phillips C-10, and my F-100 finished mid pack at Optima (similar event) beating many competitors. It's a wake up for the pro-touring guys when they get beat by a truck, and it's a lot of fun for us.

Thanks, Rob. I figured that's what it was, but figured I would ask and make sure. I'm actually considering checking out the RTTH here in my back yard this fall. I know my truck wouldn't be very competitive any time this year, unless I won the lottery(I don't see that happening as I don't buy tickets. ), and was able to upgrade my suspension, engine, and drivetrain.
Does anyone use or have any experience with paddleshifted auto trannys? I really don't want to run a manual in my truck, but if I evevntually upgrade to an LSX engine, I could get a paddle shifter for any of the E-trannys.

Hey Rob, there are a few of us who brought GM A-bodies to the RTTC battle too. I ran my 68 Malibu there last year and finish lower mid pack on hard tires, low horsepower, and stock brakes. There is no reason that a truck can not be competive at any event....if it is set up right. RTTC (all the pro-touring.com events for that matter) are more about getting together with like minded individuals and work out the cars, much better than the lawn chair diaper rag crowd IMHO.
Matt I am not a fan of most paddle shifters, well at least the ones on the 2010 Camaro and Corvette. The buttons for those cars are on the steering wheel so they are turned and it gets confusing fast as to which is up or down shift. Look at the systems that mount the paddles to the column (like the exotics do it) to avoid that confusion. I think the paddle shifters on most of the cars like the Camaro is more gimic than help for spirited driving. It really is a blast to shift a manual on a road course.....hmmmmm time to get out to Willow Springs with the Malibu.

406 Q-ship, yeah I would look into the TCI paddles that mount behind the steering wheel. They have actual paddles, not fingertip buttons like the Camaros and some German cars have.
I have to be careful with my truck. I want to drive it and enjoy it, but at the same time, I want to keep it somewhat classy looking. I would love to have some supportive racing seats, but they would look completely out of place with the rest of the truck. I still want to be able to power park occasionally as well as tear up an autocross.

Good news/bad news. We got some springs to swap in the front. Using the #6102 springs, with 1/2 a coil cut set the truck sits with the ball joint pivit at an even hieght to the A-arm pivit. So, there's food for thought. It rides good, and seams to handle a bit better. The bad - It looks like the frame is a bit bent. We found a wrinkle in the pass rail, that explains the lower stance on the pass side. The crossmember may be a bit bent. - but I have a spare. Anyway, we're installing a new adjustable panhard rod and taking a look at rear shock mounts. - keep you posted.

It's been a great weekend on CL. I got a cherry 71 cab for $125, and later, a set of 20" Irocs w/tires for $400. The cab is so nice I almost choked. - no sunroof, no rust. Picts up on mon.

Oops, promise, picts wed, been real busy. Track tested tonight. with real springs, the truck is at least predictable. I am back to tuning on the Bullit, so Micheal Mobley, our shop forman, is taking over driving the JT. It is important to keep some consistency so he will be driving during the testing from now on. Tonights best lap was a 55.00 sec. Thats 1.06 sec better than before. Later this week we will be installing one of our New panhard rod kits, and some new rear shocks and mounts in the rear. To put things in perspective, the Bullit ran a 49.22, with fuel issues, and fast lap of the night was a turbo Evo on slicks @ 46.83 - thats FAST!!! My goal is to get the JT into the 50 sec range. Thats a tough order, keep it a daily driver, tow a trailer, not spend a fortune, and beat up on the Miata's. Keep your fingers crossed.
