LOL! It wouldn't be fair of me to show you the end before the beginning I'm hoping after work today I can get some more done on it, before I actually cut anything or started the install I was having a difficult time figuring out how exactly to weld up and gusset the frame where it would be completely open from the pie cut but now after seeing it in person I think I know what I'm going to do. Should be pretty strong.

Well since it may take a couple days for me to get some steel and to get my friends acetylene torch I might as well post up some shots. Other updates on the truck are, I took off the driver door in preparation for my "new" white patina'd door, which did come in the mail on Wednesday along with all my other goodies which I'll post pictures of. So here's the truck with the crown Vic suspension and 17" steelies as of tuesday

Then on Wednesday I came home after work to see my door and parts had come in so i put a exterior handle, door latch and my lock from the original door in along with the original doors window frame and then bolted it on and wiped it down to see what I'm my end result may look like

Also thre on the new "100" emblems that I got. These are 61-65 and there painted red from the factory, I decided to go with red in the emblems because it should tie in the red interior, still have yet to repaint the emblems though

Also got a set of taillight lenses that are in pretty good shape. Still need the housings but I threw the lenses in just to finally see the rear more complete

My list of door parts and components is getting smaller but I still have things to get before there complete. But at least now I have all the interior door handles and just need some window cranks. As of last night I cleaned up and repainted one of my custom emblems for the doors

Since the driver door has holes drilled for aftermarket mirrors I'm going to position the custom emblem to cover most of them, that way It looks a little nicer.

Man its looking good ,that is one KOOL looking truck .Its sort of strange on my part because way back when I used to think they were so ugly but now I think they were like the Edsel and just a little ahead of their time . Just rambling here ,back to your regular program now.

You know I always thought they were a look ont a mother could love but at the same time I still liked these trucks and I would always go up and look at them as a kid. And now I know way more about these trucks and Im actually starting to love the way these trucks look, my favorite for sure though is the later 65's like mine and the 66, the bed and taillights are just perfect and with the cool pie plate bezels and single headlights I feel like they just nailed it! 67 started getting a lot of what I'm going to say "70's" styling a little too much at once but there still pretty cool too. I honestly think the only reason why these trucks were and still are neglected and overlooked is because there were no disc brakes and no IFS, in the 90's when people started getting really into redoing/restoring/building 60's trucks they all turned to the c10 because it has the easy ability to have power disc brakes, power steering, a bunch of options, IFS, some with coil rear suspension and they were smoother and nicer in the handling department, and then they went for the f100's because they had coils with twin I beams which I'm sure rides nicer then the straight axle and people probably still think it's too much time and money to make a d100 cool. But I feel the more and more sweptlines like mine start to be built and shown there will be more people following

The pic was taken at my Bro-in-Law's place up near Lafayette, Ga. I took it the day I sold the truck to him. I just thought it would be cool to make a pic of it sitting next to his 68 dump truck. That style was referred to as a Sweptline. They were available as 4X4s but I converted that one using parts from a 70 model, which was almost a bolt in conversion. I rebuilt the axles, had all new drive shafts made, and put new seals in the transfer case. Actually you could have ordered a truck almost exactly like it in 1969, except for the 440 engine and automatic transmission. You could have gotten a 383 engine but not an automatic in a 4X4 truck. I had an original 67 Dodge 4X4 back in the early eighties and wanted another one so I built that one. Every piece of trim on that truck is NOS, I don't think you would ever find it all again.

Well guys I got a line on a 2005 5.3 LS motor from a Tahoe has 140k miles it's i his Tahoe right now and is supposed to run good, and he wants $600 bucks what do you guys think? I wanted something with 80-100k miles but if this isn't to bad of a deal then I may just go for it

I have 183K on my 02 Suburban 5.3 and you can't tell it's got any miles on it at all. Uses less than a quart of oil between 6K mile oil changes. If it's in good shape it would be a good deal at that price.

i know three guys in Nebraska with these crew cabs and one regular cab all put cummins diesels and 3/4 4 x4 drivetrains in them pretty cool and they would get a kick out of the crown vics running gear because they also derby and run the crown vics.

A lot of people think I just being "trendy" and going with the LS to be a "cool kid" instead of being more "unique" and going with a modern Hemi or a Cummins, now I will give the Hemi credit, it makes pretty good HP and pretty good Torque, the only problems are its pretty expensive and harder to find a used Hemi motor to buy and there a pretty large motor and probably more heavy then other motors. And the Cummins is great for pulling, towing, and hauling has good torque, but unless you do some modifications there still a diesel and diesels are meant for torque and not so much horsepower, horsepower can be achieved with a diesel but it take some parts, but the cummins is still a long heavy motor. The LS is one of the only modern motors that is relatively small in size, good HP, good torque, fairly light weight, and is fairly cheap and easy to find used or even rebuilt, it's perfect for cruising down the highway doing some hauling and towing, and getting decent mileage (especially since the dodge will be roughly 1600lbs lighter then the silverados that those LS motors have to pull around), that's why I'm recalling hearing towards the LS swap. What I also find funny is LS swap are a common swap, and although there has been sweptlines LS swapped, there's still very very few of them, the more common motors found in the sweptlines that I've been seeing is either the old school mopar sbc's, bbc's, new hemi's and cummins swaps. So in a way by putting an LS in my 65 I'm actual long doing a more uncommon "untrendy" swap haha

On a side note, I found avoid steel supply/welding shop today and I found a place that has a awesome selection of hardware, bought some 3/4-10-10 bolts but turns out the holes in the aluminum portion of the crossmember arent as big as the metal brackets from the coil over towers so ongoing to need to get 5/8-10-10 bolts instead, so when I go back to Merced. Hoping to ciut the steel I got today and get the frame welded back up fully and begin preparation for boxing and the bolting sections of the frame, I also did buy some weld thru primer so I don't have to worry about rust inside the boxed portion of the frame... More updates to come.

Well rounded up some stuff on Monday, managed to get the steering joint that connects to the ford rack from a Lincoln LS and I also got all 4 of the right bolts, they were much cheaper then I had anticipated. Also made some metal pieces from the cardboard templates I made and smas I started to weld those in I got to the last piece to complete the driver side rail and as I was getting everything in position to weld I hear the welder turn off..... And well I'm thinking it's pretty much dead, unless there's a fuse inside under a panel or something I'm pretty sure the circuit board or whatever it uses in there might be fried, I checked all connections, and I made sure the plug in in the wall was getting power and it didn't just pop the breaker. So as of right now progress on finishing the frame is to a halt. I did manage to weld those tabs on for the rear mounting points of the crossmember and primer the portion of the frame where the crossmember is with the weld thru primer. And I can still drill the holes in the frame for the front mounting points. So I'm going to see if I can take it to a buddies house and finish the welding there.
