65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
well my first truck that isnt a c10 or k10 but for under a thousand bucks i couldnt pass up this truck.. you just dont see any of these and the fact its a crewcab and a shortbed!? how could you let it sit. so the truck is:
1965 dodge d100 crew cab shortbed sweptline. plans are: 71 72 c10 rear axle and suspenion either a small block chevy or an inline6 still undecided on front suspension but i will be running IFS up front to get rid of the horrible riding 4 wheel leaf spring suspension with front straight axle. 4 wheel disc brakes front and rear sway bars lower the truck (still need to put suspenion on and set it on the ground before i can decide how low needs to go) and last but not least i will leave the patina paint on the outside but the inside will be repainted a nice cherry red with white and black accents. anyways enough talking and how about some pics. |

You don't see the crew cabs often. Here is a nice one I see occasionally.

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
turns out the rear of the truck is off the ground because someone welded metal to the rear of the frame.. those will come off as soon as i get some suspension under the truck found a cool little chrysler emblem on the rear lower corner of the passenger fender.. wondering if its original?

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
finally started doing work to the truck. took the grille, tailgate and door panels off the truck. took the door panels to the college and bead blasted and primered them. the plan is to do the door panels a checkered scheme (i have a picture of what im talking about) the tailgate was pretty dented but ive been working on the dent.

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
more pics. the tailgate was super dirty from the outside needed a big bath so after some nice warm soapy water and hard scrubbing i got it clean. i took all the handle parts and latch mechanisms apart and sanded/primered/paintedthem and then put the tailgate back together with new stainless steel screws for the handle.

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
then i started working on the headlight bezels. they were both missing the black little "traingles" so i repainted them and if you see the pictures before of the drivers side headlight bezel it was pretty beat up so i straightened it out as best i could for now til i find a clean replacement.

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
You will need to join the Sweptline forum, http://www.sweptline.org/forums/ for information and parts. It's a good bunch of guys and I still drop in to see what's going on there. Don't tell them you are putting Chevy parts on it though, LOL. They are as Dodge as the folks on this forum are Chevy. I like your idea for color. My last truck was a 69 Dodge that was tan like yours and I put a red interior in it.

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
Awesome truck. Something we take for granted with these Chevrolets is that you can build a catalog truck... some other makes/models/years... good luck finding parts! A friend restored a 63/64ish dodge 4 door car (can't remember what it was) but he said it took him almost a year to find a good used bumper (no aftermarket one available). It was a great looking car too.
First time I remember seeing one of these huge dodge crew cabs was in the movie "Fire in the Sky." Pretty sure it was even the same color. To me, this pic is hilarious.... HUGE looking motor.... itty bitty 2 barrel carb

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
That is a Mopar 318 engine. Sometimes referred to (incorrectly) as a big block or wide block 318. Correctly, it's an A318 and actually no bigger than the later LA318 which came along in 1965 and continued, with updates, until about 1990. I've had many Mopars with both style engines and always liked them.

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
These are definitely more difficult to restore than a Chevy due to there not being any sheet metal parts being reproduced. You can find mechanical parts to keep them running but no trim or sheet metal. The Sweptline forum that I mentioned earlier is the best source for parts. Glass and rubber parts are available from several different sources so that's no problem. Steele and Restoration Specialties are two good sources. Search on EBay for 67 Dodge truck parts and you can find a lot that way. You can find what you need but it just takes looking. Every piece of trim on my truck was NOS that I located from various places. That gold star on the right fender is called a "Pentastar" and is factory. It first appeared in 1964 when Chrysler started offering a very long, for the time, 50K mile warranty.
My bro-in-law owns my truck now so I get to drive it when I visit him. He says he will never sell it. |

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
Those Poly 318 are pretty strong runners. Some guys building stroker 408 out of them. Hardest part is finding a 4bbl manifold. Course if you already have a Chevy plant for it? Just an FYI (you probably already know)
Wonder how a Crown Vic front end might fit? Looking forward to the progress on this one!

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
it will be a fun project. you can either go with a CV ifs set up or do the later dodge truck clip on to the stock frame, not sure which way im gonna go with on my 70 D100

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
Yeah I originally wanted to put the suspension from a 71-72 c10 under the front but... The frame rail distance on a Chevy is 30" at it's widest but the dodge is 34".. So that won't really work. So for now I'm going to worry about getting a 71-72 rear axle with trailing arms, trac bar and, the trailing arm crossmember from our trucks then I can fabricate all that in and put it on the ground for the first time with independent suspension in the rear.

Re: 65 dodge d100 crew cab AKA ''she wants the D''
I believe the 80-9? Chevys were wider than the 71-72's. I might be wrong on that but might be worth looking into.
