Finally...a new shop at the house

Back to regularly scheduled programming... but my new local friends are certainly invited down for a beer and truckin’.

I’m hoping to have some time to get the rest of the a/c stuff finalized. I won’t be able to get it charged up, but hoping to have it ready by 1st of the week.

HVAC is installed & cooling. 95 degrees outside and high a$$ humidity has been reduced to 78 degrees and 37% humidity inside!!! Woo Hoo

^^^ Thanks Doug! I still have to finalize the duct work, but it’ll keep the shop 78 degrees easily & the humidity has become extraordinarily tolerable. But I spent all day today bush hogging the 100 acres around the house, shop & pond. Did I mention the tractor is without a/c ...

Duct work is halfway done... I had no idea how miserable this was going to be... heat likes to rise to the top of the shop & Alabama has some serious heat & humidity this time of year. But I know it’ll be fantastic when finished.

Well, I decided I’d better put some discharges on the other side between the lights, so this half of the shop got 2 more tonight. And I got the beam-drop tonight, so I’m hoping to finish up this weekend (tomorrow hopefully).

Nothing really picture worthy, but I got some plugs installed up high for my birthday presents...extension cord reels. They’ll be super handy & out of the way at the same time.

Carter, I do have a question back on the duct work...or more about duct work. How critical are ducts? Would system output be enough to send cool air across the space?

Have been considering adding AC to my shop and wonder about air distribution.

Really appreciate your thoughts.

I actually didn’t have any ductwork for the first month or so and used the system without it. I then ran it for about 3 weeks with nothing but the first piece of ductwork that just came off the air handler and that was a massive improvement. It definitely helped control the humidity, but it wasn’t nearly as cool (or quiet) as it is now. I am lucky in that a very good friend of mine owns a commercial hvac company and most of my duct work was “scrap”. I only had to get him to build the beam drop and the piece off the air handler. The old saying, “It’s not what you know, but who you know” was proven true on this one.

So, for a starting point, yes the air handler will certainly help. Then you could add ductwork later on.

Here’s a shot of the piece I’m talking about on the air handler. It did quieten down the air handler and it moved the air across the shop quite a bit more.
