Glad I'm not the only one that caught the Retch Sweeney reference, '72 Redneck!
When there's a SMELL associated with front end work - smells like an old tractor......that brings back memories! |

The sheet metal, though rusty, has sat outside in Kansas for 50 years, yet has NO hail damage!

When it's raining and cold out which leads to your windshield fogging up and having to use your hand to wipe the windshield off so you can see.

when you open the door...no courtesy lights, absolutely no upholstry on the door, the signal light lever is only for the signal light, and there are no knobs sticking out the top of the door to lock it.

Re: You Know You're Working on an Old Truck When...
when the heater and radio were both options, but every truck came with an ash tray, standard equipment.... smoke em if you got em.
and every time someone gets in your truck they slam the door...and you cringe a little every time. |

You have a HOT and COLD warning light
You drive with both feet even if it's an automatic (at least untill the cold light goes off) |

And then they cringe when you punch them as hard as they closed the door.

1. ~"Going to buy parts" means a trip to the junkyard.
2. ~You drag home three parts trucks so you can work on the "other" truck in the yard. ~AND~ 3.~When you go to the local "You Pull It", you hope it's all there when you return! |

Re: You Know You're Working on an Old Truck When...
Sometimes if we're going out to dinner I'll wander outside waiting for my wife. I have to stay away from the truck otherwise I'll end up dirty for sure. It always starts with just grabbing a wrench to "adjust this just a little bit....."

Re: You Know You're Working on an Old Truck When...
When you fix one part and another part breaks as you finish fixing the first part
when you get a full workout from just driving to the corner store (standard) when turning left involves about ten complete turns of the steering wheel and when some one looks inside and says "its a standard"?

Re: You Know You're Working on an Old Truck When...
When you get done fixing and you know you have something and your constantly trying to come up with excuses to go for a drive.
My father says that the springs in the seat back of a 66 will hold 12 beers and a bag of ice, people will tell you that you have something leaking as the ice starts to melt though |

Every other word out of your mouth isn't meant to be heard in public while working on removing rusty bolts!
