Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

Made some progress over the weekend. Sorry about the sideways pictures, any tips to rotating them? They were not sideways on my computer.

Been trying to finish blasting my frame, but keep blowing holes in the ball valve on the blaster hose. Already been through 4 valves in two bags of media. Ordered some stainless steel one today,so maybe next week I will have some new pics. Finally cooling off enough to get motivated. Only problem with that is now its Deer season.lol

Yeah, I blew a hole in the valve for the hand control. It needs to be all the way open. If media flows around any corners while under pressure, it will just eat away at it. Keep at it and you will be motivated by the progress. It's addictive.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

headlights quit on me Saturday night after leaving a local cruise. So I figured I had better figure it out with Goodguys coming up this weekend in Bowling Green.
Narrowed the problem down to the dimmer switch. Had some high resistance in some terminals. So cleaned them up and did a little solder job. Put it back together and still no luck.
I would get power when I pushed down on the switch so I took it back apart. I filled the dimples in the spinner wheel with solder and now all is well.
I guess it had worn and created enough clearance that it would not make good contact.

Holy cow! Nice work. I'd have just given up and bought a new one. Very cool that you know how to fix that stuff!

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

RKS NICE work on the PS adapter.

Bruce, I admire your tenacity - fix'n what you got - love it. I just bought a dimmer from NAPA and we'll see how long it lasts.

Last night I finished wiring and shrinking all my connections in the home-made harness going aft for lighting and fuel sender. Turned out good. Added ground wires in several places too.

Blazer tank filler and vent hose added. Tightened bed mounting bolts and touched up some paint underneath.

I'm trying to get it back on the floor so I'm buttoning up everything I can think of underneath!

So I installed and ran the speedometer cable my buddy gave me...

now to bleed the brakes and sit it back on the tires.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

Didn't get the brakes bled but I plinked a bit anyway

Turned the re-pop Stock gas tank cover into a back panel, finished my Civic door seals, rebuilt my instrument panel, modified my glove box door.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

Loads of stuff, captured in my build thread.

However, also removed the old steering column.....

And tried out the "new" one.

Understood to be from a Chevy Day van of unknown vintage. Possibly 80/90's

I was wondering if anyone knows what it's cable operated section is for?

If you turn the ignition key beack and push it in after turning it to the "off" position, it activates a cable in there, but then you cannot remove the ignition key.

This component is in the way where I need to fit the column,so needs to be removed, but I have no idea what it's purpose is.

Advice and help appreciated.

Thanks as always.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

I didn't unload my spare 10si alternator from the vacation car so it came along for the ride to Seattle, BC's sunshine coast, back to Seattle and finally home to Calgary again. This upsets me that I didn't have a place for it so on to the 66 C10 today it went. It only took about an hour and a half including the conversion from externally regulated. The bearings in the old one feel a bit rough so that's a good excuse to drop it off for recycling at a local alternator shop.

Officially bolted the '82 C30 front suspension into my '62 temporarily. Installed Hydro Boost onto bracket. Mocked up steering shaft. Stared at rear of frame for an hour contemplating brackets for new fuel tanks. I guess you could say I now have power steering and disk brakes!!

As there is probably another 20-30 loads of this.

One day I will get round to updating what I have been doing and why there is a rather large ‘red rash’ on Woody’s flank.

Paul Y wins. Truck, chopping wood, beer can never be beat.
All I did was load a small block and th400 into my s10 and brought them home. Small block needs to be rebuilt, so that will be my life for awhile.
