Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
Here’s the $40 dollar question of the day…
Will this make my Mallory 4309 fuel leak, go away?!? I’ve found that once you go around the block a time or two and smoke the tires down inadvertently… You are chomping @ the bit for more… We shall see…

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
Motivating to see a build done without a lot of parts being shipped in. Stunned to see spray paint look as good as it does. Thinking I can get that going with my build. Thanks for all the pics!

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
So as to the $40 question...
Yes, that fuel leak was fixed... Then the fuel pump junked out shortly after... Thinking ahead, while I was shopping for the parts to fix the leak issues, I found a deal on a new fuel pump so I had one on hand... I was burning midnight oil to get her ready for the Hot Rod Hoe Down in New Caney, TX. I got it road legal on Friday March 2nd & drove it straight to the exhaust shop... I packed a small box of tools, a tow strap, jumper cables & a charged cell phone with some people on call for a rescue should things go all wrong... It purred like a kitten all the way there & back... No tools required... My girls went with me & confessed that they never thought this truck would ever run again... They are happy that it is running & want to ride in it to school, the store or wherever we go... Me thinks that is cool...

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
I had to get the hood prepped & painted so I took the trip to "Area 51" where I had it stashed in the rafters for safe keeping...
With the help of a few of my neighbors we put it on... Not bad for a rattle can labeled, Krylon...

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
I have found out that when no one sells the part you need...
You simply have to make it yourself... I made another trip to "Area 51" & commenced to get to work on making what I needed... The finished product turned out perfect... Once again, we made it from stuff we had lying around so therefore it was... FREE... We also made a few "modifications" to the rear sway bar set up... Got it all hooked back up & it will carve a pretty good line now...

I had picked up some center caps @ the swap meet a while back...
The donor van was a GMC, but the truck is a They were a little dirty, but cleaned up fairly well... I made the trip to Wally World for a few more rattle cans to fix this up a little... Got them all prepped & got to laying down the Krylon once more... Here is the finished product...

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
Katrina/10 - Can you give me some more info on the paint you used on the wheels? I'm planning to do mine soon and yours looks great in the pic.
Thanks, Gary Thanks for the compliments on the wheels Gary... To be honest, all the paint I have been using on this project is Rust-o-leum... Let's be real here, Captain Rust-o-leum is not nearly as catchy as "Captain Krylon" now is it ?!? In answer to your question, the paint is Rust-o-leum "Hammered" finish silver. I used the same paint on the serp belt brackets on the motor. All I did was clean them, degrease them with Purple power, & scuffed 'em up with a green scotch bright pad... (same thing with the cap bolts, or you could just buy new ones, but I'm on a budget.) Prior to laying down the paint I coated the tire sidewall with a heavy coat of Meguiar's High Gloss Tire gel & used a Q-Tip to put a layer of Vaseline on the valve stems. If done properly, the paint will not permanently adhere to the rubber stuff. After a couple of good coats & a days dry time you are almost done... To remove the paint from the rubber I use the green scotch pad to clean up the sidewall and a small wire brush to get all the paint from the letters and that small space where the tire & rim meet... Re-dress with the tire gel & Presto-chango... Your done...

Thanks for the props... & yeah... those "were" a pain... in the rear, arms, wrists, neck, knuckles, & every other part attached to this old man... I got it all back on, but haven't posted pics yet... The plan is to not have any trim except the C-10 on the fenders, & the grill trim in the gills... I have other parts of the truck that are gonna' take some time before I can get those welded up, so in the mean time, the trim is back on it... Thanks for chiming in... Long time no type...

Thanks for the info! your wheels and tires do look great, I've been trying to find a good rally wheel silver. Going to go get some rustoleum.

Looks good, I used some paint stripper and pulled all the paint off on my ralley centers, then put some spot mirrors on them.

Re: The misadventures of Captain Krylon - 68 C-10 barn find
Have not updated this since March 24th...
Been too busy with life & truck building to post about the truck online... I did have time to mess with an old picture of the truck & a photo app on my phone... Reminds me of digging thru the box of family pics & digging a cool looking one from the bottom of the box that has seen better days...
