Re: Project OverKill
Thanks Yukon! And a lil' more progress with the firewall. Seeing how it's all shaved other than the top channel....I shot a coat of SPI white epoxy...another coat going on in 45 min. SPI flowed perfectly out of my cheapie gun.

Re: Project OverKill
How the project was named, LOL. This post should have been at the front but oh well here is how the name came about:

Re: Project OverKill
I just did it. If it was to break...I'll buy another dishwasher....but it didn't break and all was just fine.
Just got to the shop this morning and before I have to go to "real" work...slapped a skim coat of Rage Gold on the firewall.

Re: Project OverKill
Looking sweet man! I just read your frontend rebuild thread (musta missed it before). You did it the way I'd like to. Maybe media blasting for me, but either way CLEAN. Are you gonna let us in on what you top coated those parts with?

Looks Good Man. That's Where I Stopped, When I Got To The Firewall. Mine Has Some Rust In The Upper Part Where The Wire Loom Goes Across. That Gold Stuff Is Like Filler? Your Doing A Good Job.

Re: Project OverKill
Looking good, I just read the entire thread
![]() ![]() Before you go any farther finish your top rail!!!! You do not to be breathing that epoxy paint as you are welding and filler does not like heat at all! I would go with a simple 90* shave job on the top rail. The 45* did turn out nice but it is alot of welding and shaping and untill you get the hang of it a bit more I would not try it just yet. So what is gator hyde, like a line-X or rino? Oh and thanks for the mention. It always shocks me when my name pops up in other people's threads. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: Project OverKill
Hey Kevin. Yes I know, I will stop, and get back to welding and finish the top rail! When comparing GatorHyde against those two It is closer to LNX, but in my honest opinion...Better! GatorHyde has a glossier appearance and more UV protectants in the formula and most important a higher concentration of PolyUrea.

Re: Project OverKill
Rage Gold is a filler or bondo if you like. From what I have read, it is the perferred filler of many fine painters. It starts out gold, but when you add the blue hardener to it...it ends up green. I will work in small areas with it from now on. Seems to be ready to sand in 20 min.
Started capping the channel:

Re: Project OverKill
Making progress...lots of spot welding and grinding. Still got more spots to fill and more grinding...but I am getting it done! I went with the 90 degree cap and am very happy with the look. 4 bolt big block set to be delivered today!

Re: Project OverKill
UPDATE:
My online purchased Gen IV 4 bolt Big Block arrived last week, very well packed and bagged. Immediately I took it over to Smith Racing in the same complex as GatorHyde of Denver, they went over the whole block. So into the Hot tank the block went with them thinking it looks OK...but what the heck is under all this silver paint??? Tom Smith owner of Smith Racing, said that it is never a good sign when you see a block all painted silver...What are they hiding??? Lots of RUST that's what. Seller painted the block silver to make it look good in pics online like it had just been blasted. Oh well... out of the hot tank and a day of drying, then it went into his block blasting machine for 8 min., normally he blasts for 2 min...anyway when I saw it yesterday...it looked like a BRAND NEW block....yea!!! No cracks, no problems...says just a little honing of the lifter journals...and Tom Smith says it's ready to build, "what cha wanna do with it". So....it will be bored .060 over this week. Eagle Kit # ESP-18022 496 Rotating assembly, (118 cc Edelbrock heads = 10.2 to 1 compression)...is somehow finding it's way over to my shop...so into the basement I go to print up some duckets/toadskins to lay down for it, LOL! Pics of block to follow. Alex

Re: Project OverKill
Ahhh...I watched a PRO shorten and weld my frame all the while retaining everything I saw and the info he gave me from the questions I asked this very special person & PRO welder! "It's all in the settings...ya want that bacon frying sound without burn thru, get you some .023 wire...and just a lil' zap about this long on sheet metal"
![]() Thanks Glock!!!!!!

Re: Project OverKill
You can't find them out here, why stall a project for months looking for one when glock's work is top notch.

Re: Project OverKill
Block is at Smith Racing being bored .060...I should get it back later this week. I didn't take any pics of it in the rusty state, or after it came out of the blast machine...But I will take some pics when it comes back from boring.

Re: Project OverKill
slow down bud i didnt mean to ruffle any feathers there. first off i didnt realize glock shortened it. and yes i agree he does top notch work. i just cought the comment where you where having a pro welder shorten the frame and you can pick up short frames for a couple hundred bucks around here. so i just wondered why you would pay someone to shorten it when you could have gotten a short frame just as cheap.

Re: Project OverKill
wasnt bashing at all buddy. hell i didnt even know you had it shortened already. i just figured with all the money your putting into it if you ever wanted to sell it you would get more if it had a short frame. anywho keep up the good work i really enjoy watching this thread especially the engine as i plan for an injected 540 for my 2wd blazer or an ls2 havent made up my mind yet but i already have the bbc so ill probably go that route.
later
