Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I stopped by the truck (it lives at work, not home) and got the front calipers plumbed up, wheels bolted on & greased the freshly-assembled steering.
I also walked around the truck & threw out all the old parts boxes, misc. scraps, packaging etc and got the greasy rags into a single pile. Still have to plumb the rear brakes, find out what's dripping in the brake plumbing (!), bleed the system and attach intermediate shaft to column, then column to floor. Then the body work goes back on.Once that's all done, I'm leaving the truck alone till after I move this September. |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I gave up on getting out the old kingpins and hired it out. I got the 57 back today and the steering is smooth, does not wander at 85. I think I trust it now to be the daily driver.
The spring shocks on the front were compressed and now the front suspension is tight. Maybe this is how the 57 drove when it was new? So far I have a straight axle, speedway disc brake conversion, sway bars, spring loaded shocks, and new kingpins all with a heavy 454ci. I must look at the front disc brake conversion (drum rears) as I step on the pedal it takes a long time to stop. I can pump the brakes and it stops faster. I changed to a 15" steering wheel and the steering is easier to control. |

Thought about changing the oil but it got hot here and I hauled 6 people and the boat to the lake.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Bought a 3 core radiator (designed for a chopped down '32 F!*#), a new flex plate and a bunch of chrome goodies for the truck today. Oh, and a drive line from Pickn'pull so I wouldn't have to pay to have the one I already had extended and balanced. Hard day for the bank account, but my shop will look like Christmas morning in about a week!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Got off work early and trimmed the steering column down a bit, ground new 3/4 DD flats onto it & got the intermediate shaft installed. Then ground out & installed the floor plate. Still need to drill for grub screws to secure it, but when I turn the wheel the tires move. All thats left is one or two brake flares & hose mounting tabs, I'm done for the summer.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Tim (dubie) - loving the look of the truck. That shop truck theme is a perfect theme.
Well my Thurs and Fri off from work turned into me taking Mon off also. Very busy weekend. Unfortunately no pictures right now, they are all on my camera. Wheels and tires mounted and bolted on Hood is on, but needs adjustment Headliner, insulator mat, and rubber mat are in Door glass in Door handles installed and locks keyed the same and installed Weatherstripping installed Wiring is 95% done This weekend I am building an exhaust and I swear I will drive this thing before Sunday at 7pm even if it is just out of the garage and back in.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Headed home to dump the tranny out of Big Bertha. Aparently the stock torque converter does not like the 454 and 18k pounds. Chuncks of the clutch plugged the cooler....twice. Made it home though. Tranny temp was at 298 when we checked it. So that ones a little fried. Headed out camping again this Friday. Lucky I got a spare tranny with 1000 miles on it. Now my buddy can use this one to build a better one. Should have it going again in a couple hours.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
we got damn near all of the wiring done, the cab is now carpeted and the seat has been upholstered and installed. The mini tubs have been welded and are ready to install and the aftermarket rad has been mounted. This week will consist of coolant line and fuel line plumbing, plugs, carb, wires, exhaust manifolds and then we'll look at bleeding the brakes and firing this ***** up

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I got tired of the one step forward two steps back transmission dance and drug out my old Muncie M20. I spent most of Monday cleaning it between rain showers.
Yesterday I cleaned up a bell housing and started on the cross member. The idea is to make a cross member to fit a S10 T5 and with a bolt on adapter for the Muncie. That way I can swap in a Camaro/s10 T5 pretty easy later on. I want to get the frame done and painted in this summer. |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
The wife and kids wanting to go camping is most of the motivation.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I made a new battery hold down. I bought an original style battery tie down but it won't go over the battery due to the extensions on the ends, so I used the rods that came with the set and a piece of aluminum angle sprayed with Rustoleum textured paint. At least it looks better than the plastic wrap-tie that I was using to hold the battery down.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
That looks great Russell, sometimes I wish I had left my battery in the engine compartment. Servicing the battery under the truck even with the drop down is a struggle

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Thanks D'ne. It does tidy up the firewall to move it, but I've had 1953 and 1956 Ford trucks with the battery under the floor (factory) and I prefer the under hood location.

As for those "extensions" on the battery Russ? I just cut them off and used the stock hold down frame. Posted via Mobile Device |
