Disc Brakes on 14-Bolt Full-Floater

I'm New to the Forum
I have Owned Several 1974 to 1985 Trucks + 1 (1976 Blazer)in my 20 years or so(driving) // 4/ Wheeling/
Glad to see So many Chevy Trucks Fixed-Up on this Forum.

I would like Idea's on Disc Brake conversion for 1978 14 Bolt FF Axle.

I have brackets from http//www.ruffstuffspecialties.com from E-Bay
I have 1978 Edorado/Cadillac Calipers (from Pull-A-Part) for Core & Also have Levers & springs I will need for E-Brake Set-Up

Now my Question isoes any body have Pictures of this swap or Info???????

#1-Brake hose Set-Up---AN Fitting or Regular Stuff
#2-E-Brake Set-Up---Try to Hook up to Foot E-Brake or CUSTOM Lever

When I did my swap I used the hoses for the front calipers and re-ran my brake lines so that they went through the frame like the front does.

Pull the axle shaft out
Pull the brake drumb off
Remove the Hub (this requires a special socket)
Take the brake line loose from the wheel cylinder
Remove the brake backing plate
Press the studs out of the Hub with a hammer and punch
Put the new rotor on the back side of the Hub and press the studs back through
Mount your new bracket from Ruff Stuff so that the bleader is facing Upward (the bend should be towards the wheel)
Put the hub back on
Put the caliper and pads on
Re-install the axle shaft
Repeat on other side

As for running the E-brake lines I don't know because I used front Calipers from a Dana 44

I saw a good idea the other day that I'm gonna do for an e-brake: Just run a portion of the rear brake line into the cab (I'm going to have a center console, so mine will come up into it) and put a valve on it. That way when you stop, before taking foot off the brake, close that valve & it'll hold the back brakes.

the line lock idea for a park brake is good, but not as an Emergency brake. If you lose your master cylinder you got neither. If I'm not mistaken, for inspection the E-brake must be mechanical.

You should swap out your master cylinder for a 4 disc model. Some peeps don't and get away with it. But it you really want the full benefit of the 4 disc's, swap the MC

I was Thinking more of Cable E-Brake. But that is Definately an Option.

Google Mico brake lock. I had several on different tow trucks. Not an emergency brake, but will hold your truck as anchor to winch from/to. Jay

Btw, you can use 78 caddy eldorado calipers for cable parking brake.

I've read about the caddy calipers and alot of people that have used and ran them say they are junk. They have said by the time that you spend the money on finding them gathering all the parts needed that you could buy a better set up.

I'm thinking about doing what Ghettoluxury said and for a E-Brake use a transfer case disk brake. Now granted if your axle brakes I won't have a E-Brake but if that happens I won't be driving it and I can use a brick lol.

I will read up on that caliper problem /I seen something about Lincoln Calipers On the Thread?.I don't have much money in it yet just $18.00 at pull a part and $50 Bucks on Brackets. I seen that Transfer case Brake,that's Awesome.

Yeah that's exactly what I had in mind, just didn't know who made such or how to go about searching. I really like the lever lock style ...THANKS!
