Re: wp silverado's 64 build
i had thought about building the L33 out of my 05 for this truck but im pretty sure im going with the 283 out of the 67. it will be 11.1 comp with over 600 lift all forged and guarenteed to run 10's on motor
283 L33

Re: wp silverado's 64 build
Are you converting to discs up front or are you staying with the drums?

Re: wp silverado's 64 build
sticking with drums. the only real point of 5lug is rim choice and im not worried about running different rims and its not a daily driver so drums it is. plus what i spend coverting to five lug disc could easily be spent in go fast goodies

Re: wp silverado's 64 build
but you should drop that 5.3 in your truck i bet you would like it a lot better than the 283

Re: wp silverado's 64 build
i thought about it but i know 200 times more about an old school smallblock than i do about a ls engine or how to get one running. i know i could just run a carb intake but as far as ignition id be lost. not to mention the huge price difference in building the l33 over the 283

While normally i would agree with more money for go fast goodies, safe brakes are something that shouldn't be sacrificed. It's a simple issue of responsibility. If you were going to make it a inline six, low and slow cruiser sticking with drums might be ok, but since you are planning to put some speed in it the truck should be able to stop as fast as it goes. Call it my opinion or my own theory, but I couldn't live with hitting a kid on the street because I was too cheep to upgrade my brakes. |

Re: wp silverado's 64 build
a carb intake and ignition for an ls is about 700 bucks
it would prob. be just as cheap to buil the ls..... just sayin

i dont even know if you can put a distributor in a ls motor and if notim sure the computer and wiring alone to run the ignition is cray expensive

I wasn't trying to say you should do the 5 lug swap by any means, just as you originally stated; if you don't want to use 5 lug only rims there really is no reason. I was also trying to be careful about sounding like I was expecting you to be driving like a bat out of hell. I just strongly feel that spending a few hundred to upgrade the front to a disc brake is a more than well worth investment (there are quite a few upgrade kits that would keep the stock 6 lugs). They really do make quite a difference in stopping distance, and that may be all that is needed to avoid the kid that popped out from behind the parked car in front of you, (even while going 25 in a school zone). Sorry man, in spite of my postings I'm really not trying to give you a hard time, I just tend to strongly advocate safety. |

Re: wp silverado's 64 build
I dont know the type of Jeep they come out of, but yeah, they drop in 'cuz they have the same pigtails as stock. There was a thread going recently as it is a popular swap.

Re: wp silverado's 64 build
I just installed TJ springs in my 60. The center of the retainers where the bolt goes through were substantially dished, due to the thicker wire of the stock springs. I simply rested them on a flat chunk of concrete and gave each one a few whacks with a sledge hammer to flatten them out. Bolted in perfectly.

Re: wp silverado's 64 build
Subscribed! Congrats on the new truck! I, for one, know exactly what your saying about leaving the brakes and using the 283. I prefer an old hot rod that I can work on easily. After too many upgrades it's not even a hot rod anymore haha. I've never been a fan of a newer engine in an old vehicle. It's not supposed to be a luxury car. Are you going to paint it, or go rat rod style? Can't wait to see how it turns out!
