I got an ididit column with a floor shift and was wondering if the is anyway to use a 40's or 50's steering wheel on it

Re: tilt columns

Ididit makes some adapters readily available for their columns and older steering wheels. I think they might offer custom jobs too. Best way to get an accurate answer would be to call them direct.

Re: tilt columns

Look at my build thread, in the middle of adapting a 48 big truck wheel to Cady tilt telescope column.

Re: tilt columns

You would have to check with Ididit but I'm pretty sure that they use the same spline on the steering shaft that GM has used since the early 50's.

The fun part would be getting the turn signal canceling cam to work and getting the horn to work. That may not be so hard though as they have an adapter for 55/68 wheels http://www.ididitinc.com/accessory_p...l_adaptors.htm

Re: tilt columns

Parkwood, are you using a tilt column? Did you use Ididit's horn kit for the 55-68 stock steering wheel? Anything else required?

Yes it was a Ididit tilt column and to use the steering wheel off a '57 truck all i had to do was spot weld a little tab on the horn ring to be able to hook up the wire from the column.
