throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts

59 chevy 235 stock BC carb. Hooking up my gas pedal and I only have an inch or so of travel Probably stops 6 inches from the floor . It looks like my linkage is hitting my exhaust manifold stud. Its hitting the brass nut. Does it look like anything is wrong in this picture? I know the spring needs to be attached to the pan but this is temporary

Here's what the assembly manual shows. Looks like your bracket that swivels is going clockwise rather than counterclockwise? Almost looks like your rod to the carb has an extra bend in it too. Hopefully someone who has this set up can chime in.

I tried rotating it and no luck. The rod going to the carb needs to be longer but this is what came off it .

Been there did the same exact thing. You have the bellcrank positioned wrong. The guy who got that all together right the first time without having to step back and figure it out leads a charmed life.

The rod is on right it is the Bellcrank that is in the wrong position.

I think it was on the 56 235 that I put in my friend's 53 that I beat my head against the wall on on that.

You have to take the bell crank off and turn it around so that the straight arm is up and the bent arm is facing down as the diagram that 57 tailgater posted shows.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

I did that and the rod going to the carb is too short. Thats what I originally did. I went to a friends shop yesterday and he had a rod off an automatic trans with the kickdown and its longer and the bell crank is different but it should work like the manual shows. Its a couple inches longer and adjustable. This motor came with a auto choke carb and I think the linkage is different. It came with the parts in the photo and they worked but it wont go back together .

Re: throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts

OK I think the new linkage will solve that problem but Now I have a new one. The linkage from the gas pedal to the bell crank hits the exhaust manifold when I push the gas pedal. Is the linkage supposed to have that high arc bend in it??

Re: throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts

I'm thinking that the rod is not supposed to have that bend in it. Both of them that are on cabs I have are straight in that area but one is bent from being banged around for the past 30 years that I have had that cab.

It has an auto choke carb on it so someone changed out the carb at one point. I think they just bent and cut things to make it fit. I'm going to try straightening it a little at a time until it clears then see if I have full throttle travel. I may need to cut a section out of the middle to shorten it when I straighten it it might make it too long.

Re: throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts

Yeah, it doesn't look bent in the schematic below.

Re: throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts

if I remember correctly the stock rods are fairly straight at the engine end and have an arc close to the pedal end of things. no sudden bends like your pics show
