Help Decoding Engine
I just pulled my engine and was wondering what it is from. The numbers stamped on the back of the block are 3970014. Also stamped on the back of the block is 01 72. Does this mean january 1972? Lastly there is a T1 stamped on the back of the block. Does this mean it is an LT1 Engine?

Check the front pass. side for the engine suffix code. Should be a stamped number followed by a few letters on a raised pad. Then go to http://nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.html and look up the letters in the Small Block Suffix Codes section.

Thats great, so i guess it is possible that it is an lt1 if its from a 70-73 camaro.

In the PERA (Production Engine Remanufactures Association) common numbering parts catalog for passenger car and truck engines it shows your block to be from 1968-1976 passenger car or 1969-1976 truck. Hope this helps.
